Students I responded to: Brooke Hygema posted 5/14/14 ("Great explanations and detail! I never thought of signs posted, but that's a smart idea. Good job!") and Emily Bartholomew posted 4/19/14 (response: Great point on number two. I completely agree! Although I see where you are coming from on the first answer, I do not think it is worth people dying just because one person has crazy driving, but that is my opinion. Excellent explanations. :)") Do you think that boaters should be legally required to wear PFDs when on a moving vessel? Explain your answer.
Yes, i think boaters should be required to wear a PFD when on a moving vessel. Someone could easily get hurt if not. You could drown in the wake or even get ran over because other boats my not see you. Falling overboard could cause shock and then a person will not be able to swim properly. Not wearing a lifeguard is very dangerous and 37% of fatal accidents are because of falls overboard. Most of these could probably be prevented by the use of a PFD. Do you think that law enforcement should randomly stop boats to test if the operator is intoxicated? Explain your answer.
I think law enforcement should not randomly stop boats unless it looks like the operator may be intoxicated. It would offend many people if they just randomly got stopped and they weren't doing anything wrong. Many people do not want to be randomly stopped if they participating in an event such as skiing or tubing if they have done nothing wrong. Someone who is following the laws should not be stopped. How can the public be further educated about the use of PFDs and BUI?
The public could be further educated by pamphlets when you buy a boat. There should be more commercials on television about the use of PFDs and BUI. Many people never know these laws because they do not read the owner's manual. Law enforcement should be consulted if someone is unclear about PFDs or BUI.

Now that we are in the future with more and more people buying vehicles, it’s no wonder it’s a challenge just to drop the kids off at school. I mean ok, most people say avoid traffic and leave early. Anybody else out there ever hear of that saying? Guess what? So have the rest of those snail moving people out there. The major problem lies not because of so many people, but the select few that fear the speed limit. Oh yes, I know you have seen it every day. Maybe you are the one reading this. But is it really that hard to go the speed limit or at LEAST mind your damn business. Minding your own business is the other problem. People can’t seem to figure out traffic build up is also caused by rubber neckers. You know when you see the bright blue and red from the fuzz on the right side of the road. I mean come on, the person pulled over is already embarrassed enough. They don’t need you eyeballing them up and down while you pass. I’m sure that person passed you up going 80 mph 10 minutes ago, only because you were going 60 in a 65 mph.…

On this rhetorical critique, I will be talking about the driving community of the state of Florida. As we all know, Florida is infamous for it's terrible accidents. John Couwels and Vivian Kuo, journalists for CNN, prepared an article about the multi-car crash that occurred on January 29th,2012, where 11 people were killed and 46 others were injured. I chose this article because car accidents are a daily event in the state of Florida. However, the roads are spacious and for the most part, well designed. Florida drivers are being held accountable for the wreck due to their lack of safety precautions used while driving through a high fog/smoke area, caused by a nearby forest fire. This article is…

Shark finning has always been a problem. In the year of 2000, President Bill Clinton passed the Shark Finning Prohibition Act. The proposal prohibit any person under U.S. jurisdiction from engaging in the finning of sharks, possessing shark fins aboard a fishing vessel without the corresponding carcass, and landing shark fins without the corresponding carcass (National Marine Fisheries Service). Despite the law being enacted since 2000, it hasn’t produce much positive effects. Up until today, United States contains less than 25 percent of States banning shark fins, while other States have not been addressing the issue (Shark Stewards). It is ineffective because the United States government cannot seem to make a direct public statement towards…

I had to learn in Wisconsin that drinking is a big factor in their socializing. Drinking seems to be a part of golf, biking, snowmobiles and, Friday night fish fry’s and after work for many residents. Drinking and its results bring a lot of conversations, discussions, and some heated arguments amongst the general population. There are customers that complain of the laws, the officers on duty and the officers’ motives in the town I reside and work. Police have the duty to pull over anyone suspected of drinking and driving, it’s the law! Many of my customers have multiple violations from drunk driving and driving after revocation usual follows for the majority of convicted drunk drivers here in Westfield, Wisconsin. The remarks such as; it’s not fair that the cop can drink and not worry or the Judge was drunk but no one pulled him over are what some concerns from the general…

Automobiles have progressed through the years, and have become faster, yet the faster you go the greater the impact when an accident occurs. Federal and State agencies have developed speed limits and other guidelines, which when enforced, help keep passengers safe. Even though these laws are in place, accidents still occur; however, when the proper precautions are taken, risks can be minimized. As technology progresses so will vehicles; therefore, safety will continue to be a major concern. It is up to the motorists to decide to wear a seat belt, yet law enforcement officers are the ones who are there to enforce seat belt laws. Seat belts are installed into every car and truck, but should we have to wear them? Every state has a different law about who does and does not have to wear them, but in the state of Indiana if you are in a car that is equipped with seat belts and anyone above the age of 14 you are required to wear a seat belt. Also, children must use the correct car seat for their weight until they reach 135…
