Throughout, my high school years many teachers, family members, and friends have struggled to push the students to do more within their school. Many said that they wanted to leave behind a story, still several students never fully understood the teacher's reasons. Not to mention having Phylicia Rashad as a Notable alumni made it even better. Having so many great people going to that school really pushed me into wanting to go even more. Even though this my be the college of my dreams, this means leaving my family. Washington D.C is not that far from here, but for me it is hours and days away. On the bright side news reporters have said that Howard has an exceptional film program. The truth is I’m really not sure what I want to do, being a film director, an actor, or maybe even lawyer it all seems like a lot. Especially for a person of color, the world is set up so that a person like me won’t succeed. Of course I want to go to college, but am I ready for it? Why should I have to write a paper on the college I want to go to. I know this is assignment is given to everybody, but I feel like there is more than what they say. Would you ask me to write a paper if I was different. This is my paper, this is why I want to go to Howard University. “There's always something to suggest that you'll never be who you wanted to be. Your choice is to take it or keep on moving.” -…

“The future belongs to the discontented.” I agree with this quote because the future definitely does belong to the discontented. In my opinion, the discontented represents everyone. No one can truly ever stay content for long without wanting to better their current situation. Even the richest man in America, Bill Gates, still feels the need to change the future – his and the world’s. I think it is great that the future belongs to those who are dissatisfied, and I believe that it does because of many reasons such as human nature and the American Dream.…

My dream for the next four years is to achieve a Physician Assistant degree at St. John’s University. As I transition to college from high school, I understand how there is no one in the world besides myself to help me reach my goal and it will require hard work as well as motivation to reach that point. At times, I feel overwhelmed with the struggles that arise in achieving my degree, but that would not stop me from my main point in coming to this school. I am able to connect my experience to the experience the Nolan’s and my dad went through when it was their time to achieve their dreams. I find it to be very lucky to go to school in New York because I am already one step ahead of my game to fulfill my target since New York is the place where there are many opportunities for everyone. Mother Teresa once said, "We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love." An institution such as Loma Linda, acknowledges the natural limitations of medicine and places a great emphasis on the integration of spiritual, ethical and relational issues from a Christian perspective into the practice of medicine. I believe these aspects of my educational development are crucial to my ability to serve in the capacity in which God has called me to be of service to others. The emphasis placed on the spiritual, ethical and relational development will make me a more wholesome physician, one that gives patients a greater spiritual hope, beyond the mere healing of physical…

I can still vividly recall the eleven-year-old me fawning over the likes of Lawrence Krauss and Neil Degrasse Tyson. I was completely immersed in everything and anything pertaining to the vast universe beyond our seemingly insignificant world. I thought I had it all figured out. I would devote my life to being an astrophysicist and eventually earn my PhD. I would relish in the pink lettering on my wall that said “Dr. Mia”, but as I approach my late teens, my mind has been bombarded with what-ifs and buts. Irrespective of my change of heart, I still have an intense passion for math and science since it is how we explain the world around us, and that is why I have settled on biomedical engineering.…

Psychology as a whole has seen many major changes since it began. Take Sigmund Freud, the "Father of Modern Psychology", for instance. He was once the leading psychologist in the world, but now the majority of his ideas have been debunked or cast aside. Not too long ago, a large majority of psychologists were firmly rooted in the idea that a human being was a conglomeration of behaviors that could be changed through conditioning. To those psychologists, people were the sum of their behaviors. Today, behaviors are still important part of psychology, but much more emphasis is placed on thoughts and emotions.…

Everyone knows the intersection on Hoover and Jefferson. It’s where students and faculty and neighbors of the community for a moment in time all come together. That intersection represents not only ones entrance and exit from the “USC bubble,” but provides a moment of realization that there is life beyond the classrooms, the books, and even the 2 mile “Fruber” radius around USC. See USC, provides the opportunity for one to reach their goals, to take their dreams and make them a reality. However, sometimes it takes a whole community and a 30 second traffic light to get you where you need to go.…

It convinced me to pursue a path in medicine, so I could learn how to work the intricacies of our internal wiring. Taking AP Psychology also opened to me the field of neurology- the foray into the complex chemistry of our brains. I found beauty in the brain’s delicate neural pathways that housed entire lifetimes of memories, and the unique ability of introspection. Along with classes, I participated in medical-oriented clubs such as Health Professionals of America, which helped me experience life in the medical field. As well as clubs, I was an active player in the Girl’s Basketball team in freshman year. I also take archery lessons to improve my dexterity and stamina, which taught me the importance of persistence for improvement. Both my family and my own interest in medicine inspired me to pursue a career path towards Biology in college. Since medicine is increasingly becoming more corporal, I chose to complete a double degree in Biology and Healthcare Management- an option that only UT Dallas…
