How Football Changed My Life
Although I have had many injuries growing up, there is one that particularly changed my life for the better. The injury occurred when I was playing eighth grade football. It was August and we were scrimmaging Westfield; a very good team that had a lot of big players. The coach called me onto the field to play fullback, which means that I was probably going to carry the football. As I was running onto the field my heart started to beat a little faster. I had a bad feeling about getting the ball. I thought that I was going to get hurt because on the play prior the fullback ahead of me injured his knee on a run. Everything went well for the first few plays, but on the fifth play the coach called a fullback run. My heart was racing, at the snap of the ball I ran ahead for about an eight yard gain, but on the way down I felt a horrible pain in my right foot. I ended up going to the hospital a half an hour later, the doctor said that I had multiple fractures (6 to be exact), possibly some torn ligaments, and a dislocation of a few bones. I really did a number on myself. The doctor claimed to me that I would be out for at least 6 weeks, which is over halfway through the regular season. The doctor also highly recommended that I go see a sports injury specialist, or a foot specialist. …show more content…
We decided to stick with the doctor at Mount Sinai because he seemed to be more cautious, and he would take time to examine what exactly I did, and if I would need surgery. It came down to a CAT scan, it would be decided that I did not need surgery, which would have been a metal plate, or two, and a few screws. Although, he gave me a cast (it was red, by choice, and it covered my whole foot and went up to about my knee) which he said it would need to stay on for 6 weeks, then we would go from

Throughout high school, my life has been consumed by sports. Being a student athlete has made me become the person I am today. Ever since I was sixteen, I have also worked at a daycare in town, TASK. This has showed me how much little kids look up to student athletes. Working at TASK has also showed me how much these little kids want to grow up and be like us student athletes. Without sports and working at the daycare, I would not be the role model I am today. Since working at the daycare, I have realized I want to be the person little girls are talking about when they say, “I want to grow up and be just like her.” Being chosen team captain has made me into the leader I am. I have learned how to push my teammates…

Baseball may seem like a game where individuals remain around and sit tight for a ball to be hit, yet that is not what baseball truly is. To me, this game has changed the way I see life all in all. Each player has been taught to have great hard working attitude, regardless of whether it's in a weight room or even practices. Coaches have given leadership chances to players every year and this year it's my turn due to my hard working attitude and my capacity to lead a team. I didn't turn into the individual I am by simply sitting around. If not for baseball, I wouldn't have that additional push individuals need to succeed. Everything began off sophomore year during baseball season. It was about mid-path through…

I was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a disease that makes my bones very brittle. When I was in kindergarten, I had broken my Femur. I was running across the playground playing with my friends. All I hear next is SNAP! and I was on the ground, leg throbbing in pain. I immediately knew my leg was broken. Once they got me to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, I was being brought in for x-rays. My surgeon, Dr. Rathjen had…

It was one of the most painful injuries that I have ever gone through. It was almost the end of the school year with just two weeks of school left. My high school coach had told us that we can play in soccer class the next day if we brought our cleats. My teammates from my club team told me they weren’t going to bring their cleats because they didn’t want to risk getting an injury before the tournament that weekend. They told me not to play, but I wanted to so I brought my cleats the next day. It was a really nice day to get better and have some fun. We started playing the next day and it was going well and fun just like I would expect it to go. The next thing I see is that everyone starts getting competitive and arguing…

Knee problems run in my family, specifically on my dad’s side. My dad had four knee surgeries, all on one knee, all within five years, and is looking at a possible knee replacement in the future. During my freshman year of high school, my FFA chapter traveled to Loveland, Colorado, for a ski trip. Tori Davidson and I partnered up and were skiing on the bunny slopes since we were beginners. As the sun was fading, our group decided to ski through a short trail--The Rainbow Trail. At the very end of the trail, the snow had turned to solid ice. My skis hit that particular spot and I built up speed. Next thing I know, I felt a pop in my knee. Laying on the ground with my leg under me, I realize I can’t move. That injury was not only painful, it would impact…

I have been a part of the men’s basketball team here at Fort Campbell high school for three years the coaches have put a lot on my shoulders since my sophomore year. I tried to lead and be a role model as much as possible last year, and that helped me grow as a person and take on challenges my father and mother went through as a student athlete. My father was an extraordinary football and basketball player, he could have possibly got a D1 scholarship if he didn’t break his ankle his senior year. As I’ve been a part of the football and basketball team, I’ve influenced my sister to exercise and join sports instead of sitting in the house wasting time. Growing up she’s has basically been my shadow; she does just about everything I do so I try to lead by example. If anything my mom influenced me to…

One morning we were playing track and field. The events we did were the hurdles, 4x 100 and 40 yard dash to name a few. I had fancied myself as a talented jumper so the hurdles came natural to me. At camp that year I was categorized with the elite when it came to the hurdles. On this particular time though I lined up and I heard the count- On your marks, get set, go! I took off over the first, then the second, next the third; I was halfway there and way ahead of the pack. When I got to the fourth I cleared it, or at least I thought I had when my foot caught the last hurdle. Down I went and in an attempt to try to break my fall I stuck my left arm out and I shattered it in two places. The pain was the worst I had ever encountered and I still use that as a measuring stick today when gauging any discomfort I have. I can recall when the counselor called my mother and I went to the hospital and got a cast put on. I also can recollect how enjoyable it was to have all my pals autograph sign. I also can recall the day when I had my cast removed, the saw was so earsplitting and I thought it was going to maim me, but when it was off I my arm was in pristine condition, but I never…

I slowly got up on one leg and struggled up to the road. There was a man approaching and I waved. It was a man and he called an ambulance. While we were waiting for the ambulance I was hysterical like a child away from home. I couldn’t move or feel my left arm or leg. I felt like I was going to pass out from the pain. The man did everything he could think of to calm me down a little bit. He asked me questions about family, school, and pretty much anything he could think of. The man was braver than me. Later eventually, after what seemed like three hours waiting for the ambulance, it finally got there. The whole way to the hospital they asked me questions about my injuries and on what I remember about the incident. The pain was almost unbearable, so I told enough of what they wanted to hear, just so they’d shut up! They gave me something for the pain. After about 15 minutes in the ambulance we got to the hospital and they hauled me into the X-ray room and took X-rays of my arm and leg. The injury wasn’t too great thank goodness. Besides being alive, that was the best news I had heard all day. They brought me back from the X-ray room and molded casts for my arm and leg. A that time I was so scared like a mouse in front if a cat of how I was going to face my…
