A Narrative Essay About The Day I Brought My Cleats
It was one of the most painful injuries that I have ever gone through. It was almost the end of the school year with just two weeks of school left. My high school coach had told us that we can play in soccer class the next day if we brought our cleats. My teammates from my club team told me they weren’t going to bring their cleats because they didn’t want to risk getting an injury before the tournament that weekend. They told me not to play, but I wanted to so I brought my cleats the next day. It was a really nice day to get better and have some fun. We started playing the next day and it was going well and fun just like I would expect it to go. The next thing I see is that everyone starts getting competitive and arguing …show more content…
I go in on a hard slide tackle and the other guy goes in hard too. We collide and my ankle takes and awkward landing. The next thing I know my right ankle is in so much pain and I can barely play anymore. I walk it off to the locker room and scream in pain when I realize that I probably won’t be playing for a while. I knew it wasn’t broken because I could still limp on it. I go to the trainer she gives me an ice pack and tells me to go see a doctor if I can. I missed the tournament the following weekend and the weekend after that. My ankle was so swollen I could barely fit it in my shoe. I went to the doctor 3 weeks after the injury had occurred. The Doctor tells me to get x-rays just in case to see if there are any fractures. I go back the following week to get x-rays to see there are no fractures. She tells me that I just have a really bad sprained ankle and tells me I cannot play for two months. All I can do is just ice it and soak it hot water and massage it. My mom tells me I should stop playing because my ankle is the part of my foot that supports my whole leg. I thought about stop playing soccer because I did not want to mess up my ankle more and not be able to

A few hours later when I went to the hospital, I discovered that I had torn my Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Initially, I did not know what to expect from the situation, but I came to realize how much it would affect my life. The ACL functions as a ligament that connects the tibia and the femur. It provides stability in the knee, and with this injury, I could not participate in competitive soccer for 10 months. To undergo this painful experience at such a young age is extremely difficult; however, I chose to embrace the situation rather than let it destroy me. I could no longer play the sport I loved, but I could not change anything about that; I could only control my attitude in this predicament. I went above and beyond at every physical therapy appointment, no matter how strenuous/painful the workouts were. Times frequently came…

As a defender I’ve learned when the perfect time to attack the ball is. The girl was running onto what we call a “through ball”. It was a fifty, fifty ball. We both came in on the ball hard and fearless. It all happened so fast. We both hit the ball at the same time, my foot on one side and hers on the other. Next thing I knew I was looking at the night sky with the bottom part of my left leg pointed out. Almost as in a “L” shape. The pain hit right away. I remember my reaction was immediately tears. All I wanted to do was try and move it, but I…

I shuffled across the field watching the running back take the ball running to the right side. I was the only one there to make the tackle Tyler and Kai both got blocked by Lineman and Landon got blocked by a receiver. I ran across the field, we both met at the pylon I only had to hit him out of bounds so I dove……. And I missed. As I fell to the ground my eyes were closed. I opened my eyes and I felt a sharp pain in my right elbow. It felt like my arm had split into 2. I looked over and I saw Landon.I said “ Landon go get the coaches I think I broke my arm.” I thought I had a broken arm. So he looked over at my arm and said “ Oh my gosh.” He started screaming for the coaches saying “Koen hurt his arm! Koen hurt his arm!” As Landon was getting them I was wondering what was going to happen to me. I was about to throw up, I…

    Minor Concussions In Sports

Two years ago, a soccer ball was blasted into the side of my head and knocked me to the ground. It left me with a concussion that not only took me out of soccer for six months, but also affected my day to day life. For months, it made me nauseous to even jog around the block or walk down a crowded hallway. I was in physical therapy, vision therapy and on a special learning plan at school. Even though the blow to my head could have altered my life completely, I pleaded with my parents to let me continue my soccer career. It took two more minor concussions to make me realize it was not safe for me to play anymore. Looking back on my time playing soccer, I question why I kept playing. Why did I put the sport and my team ahead of my own health?…

Soccer was going well until the day before my first scrimmage. I had a dentist appointment before I went to soccer and I was running a tad late. When I got there they were already working on defending drills and everything we normally did after stretches. Instead of doing my stretches I just jumped right in to what everyone else was doing. When it was my turn to defend I put pressure on the ball and when I went to plant my foot to change direction I heard six pops and an instant pain run up my leg. I fell to the ground and landed completely on it and all I could remember was how unbearable the pain was. I eventually became stable with my…

When I got home I iced my knee every time before going to go play and every night before I went to bed. I also stretch every day so it could hurt less but I kept going to practice. I would just walk, also jock and stretch the whole practice. Then the pain would go away little by little. One day, before the final game I was able to sprint and run but the problem it would hurt me if I would stop right away. So in the final the other team players were really fast and would make a lot of stops so my knee would hurt but I would just push myself. That was a day that everyone in was telling me to keep trying. I could do it and just push myself, thanks to my team mates support I played fantastic because I knew they were there for me. I also knew that if I or someone else in my team messed up that we wouldn't tell bad things. We would support the player by saying “its okay you will get it next time just try your best. We won the championship game and game back with the First place trophy for the second year in a…

I was at practice one Wednesday night of January the 11th, in the middle of a defensive drill In which I planted my foot and put all my weight on it ready to turn the ball handler. Then made a quick few steps then dropped to the hardwood I was in a world of hurt. I quickly grabbed at my leg grimacing with pain as my head laid back. I tried to hold back tears, after receiving help to sit down I could feel the cooling of ice on my leg, however, I wasn't able to pinpoint the exact part the pain was coming from. My dad had to come and pick me up and I could not put any weight whatsoever on my leg for literally three days. My mom took me to get an x-ray the next day, the doctor said: “Well the x-rays don't show anything let’s wait a while and if you still have any complications then we’ll schedule an MRI.” About a week and a half went by until I finally got the MRI it took about an hour and the machine kept giving off these strange loud noises it was weird. Then we had to wait for a few days to get the results, It was that Saturday at six o'clock that me and my brother and sister were at my grandma’s then my mom called asking to speak to me I picked up the phone not expecting what I was about to hear, “Cameron, the results came back and you have a completely torn ACL, you need to come home and get back on the crutches.” It felt like I just got shot, I was not expecting a torn…

My sophomore year while playing in a football game, I tackled a player from the other team right before half-time. While I was making the tackle, I felt a pop in my knee. It wasn’t very painful because of the adrenaline in my system at the time but the next day the pain came. It felt like there was a rubber band getting caught on my knee and coming off almost every step I took. I just put this pain aside through part of basketball season until the pain was too much and I went to get a check up, then a MRI, then before i knew it I had to get surgery for a torn meniscus. This ended my basketball season. After surgery I went to my rehab physical therapist Dr. Marty in Centralia. He got my knee back in good working order after…

I began playing lacrosse in middle school. Since I was new to the sport I was determined to become a better athlete for the upcoming high school season. Spring season of ninth grade, I made junior variety lacrosse. We had an amazing season and made memories that will last forever. Unfortunately, during the season, I injured my ankle and was out for most of the season. Even though I was injured, I was still a team player and always supported my team in every way possible. When my injury healed, junior varsity's season was over, but varsity had made the play-offs. I was one of several girls who was pulled up for the play-offs that season. Every girl knew what to expect. We knew our place and were excited and proud of the older girls for doing so well. This opportunity for all the younger girls improved our skills tremendously and we got a feel for how a varsity game is played.…

So here we have my shoe. Well worn, and supple, yet not pleasing to the eye, but a shoe that has served me well with all the tracks that I have laid within it. It has served me well, and seen the mileage of my labor, yet never faltered. There are those who would comment upon it's look, but to me, it has become a part of me that reflects the many hours spent together and the experiences…
