How Did Empress Cixi Ruled China
There are many Empresses that ruled China. One of them was Empress Xiao Xian Chun who is the woman in the picture. Another one is Empress Cixi who ruled China because her husband died and left a five year old son to rule (Carr). She ruled when she was just 27 years old (Carr). She worked to improve China in science, math, and technology (Carr). She knew the had to because they had lost the war to Europe because they had better guns and technology (Carr). She brought in British teachers and sent boys to learn in technology advanced places but it took a while to catch up (Carr). Empress Cixi had to recruit a British army to help her stop a rebellion. She had to recruit the help of Queen victoria to help her with another rebellion. When her five year old son died at 18 she kept power because she ruled in the name of her nephew who was still a child (Carr). Empress Cixi poisoned her nephew the day before she died because she didn’t want China to make t0 many big changes (Carr). …show more content…
One example is of Empress Wu Chao. She was a girlfriend to T'ai Tsung and when he died she was a girlfriend to his son, Gaozong (Carr*). She used Gaozong’s love to make him forget about his other girlfriends and she even killed some to get rid of them (Carr). She did all of those things just to get Gaozong to marry her and make her Empress of China (Carr). She was active in politics so when her husband had a stroke and was too sick to rule she ruled for him (Carr). When her Husband died she served as a regent for her son but when she was 64 she took her son out completely and made herself Empress of China (Carr). She supported Buddhism but also tolerated Taoism (Carr). She made the military and economics of China stronger and more efficient (Carr). When she was 79 they forced her out of power but the didn't know who would come after her so they had a civil war
