Honesty is the best Policy
Honesty is the best Policy

People nowadays are less honest with each other than our forefather, which make living in this modern life is not easy at all. The fact that people are not honest causes problems, some of which could hurt others badly. In my opinion lying is not a good job to do. Thus I agree the statement honesty is the best policy.

If we do not lie, we will take advantages from it. Everyone will trust us. We will have good friends, a great job and of course a good life to live. An example for this is my oldest sister who graduated from college. She never lies and she is the one that you can believe. Employers always want to have honest people to work for them. My sister has got a great job and she work hard too. Being honest in her job, she has got quick promotion to higher positions. She has many friends who are ready to be with her and help her in need. My sister’s life is good in my opinion.

If we are not honest, others do not respect us. If we lie to someone for the first time, he or she may doubt at us next time. Not getting the belief, we easily fail to succeed in doing many things. Therefore, lying does not give us benefits. In the case that we are a good liar, we will. However, finally the truth may be found out. The next fact is that no one will trust us. Then come serious problems. For example, when I ask make questions to my friend and get information which is not true. When I come to know the fact, I will not believe in her sayings for the next time. Unbelievable, she is of course a good friend at all. The friendship between her and me may become worse. I no longer respect the friend.

Dishonesty can put those who lie in difficult situations. When the truth does come out things get bad and problems start to happen. For example, being dishonest in workplace causes coworkers to be not fond of working with us. The liar gets trouble in fulfilling his or her job with the coworkers. The fact that a person does not perform well enough in job

Most of the time it is easier to tell a lie than it is to tell the truth and there is no way that we will ever completely eliminate lying from our society, because it does make our lives so much easier. Sometimes though lying can come with consequences, and it can backfire when someone discovers that you lied. Lying can cause a situation to become worse than it would have been if the truth had been told. Take James Frey for an example. He wrote an autobiography called A Million Little Pieces and the book was featured on Oprah and put on her book club list. After a while it was discovered that parts of his autobiography were not real and he was humiliated on a national level. If he had told the truth then his book could have still been published, but as a fictional story, and he could have still been a successful author and had a bestselling book. You should always be careful with the lies you tell and who you tell them to because there’s always a chance that someone will find out and then you would be in trouble.…

    Is Lying Bad?

    • 767 Words
    • 4 Pages

First and foremost, lying effects you extremely. If you tell a little white lie such as, "Does this dress make me look fat?" "No!", then you may have some guilt riding on your shoulders. If you tell a huge, important lie, then the guilt will be riding on your shoulders like a one thousand pound weight. For instance, what the president did. After a pointless lie, the whole nation is totally poor and most likely starved because of the lack of money for food and water. People lie everyday to, in someway or another, keep themselves out of trouble. Many teenagers will lie to their parents about what they are doing for the evening, how much of their homework they have done, or how that glass vase got broken while they were out of town. We even lie to our boyfriends or girlfriends about who that other boy was that called the house or what exactly we did with our friends last night. All anyone is trying to accomplish by this is to stay out of trouble when we know we've done wrong; but we never think of the effects of lying. Although we think we're being sly, parents are usually smarter than we give them credit for! Eventually there will be no point…

Lying destroys trust amongst people and results in lost prestige. When trust is lost, it is difficult to earn it back because we tend to assume that a person who has lied once will lie to us again. We then start to put our defences up against that person in order not to be deceived once again. Not only that, sometimes, we also tend to bear a grudge for long periods of time and it takes a while before the person who lied is forgiven, that is, if we ever choose to forgive and forget. The…

Honesty is saying what we know or suspect to be true, even when we do not like the potential consequences. Honesty is a great virtue in which many have the potential to possess. Generally, “honesty is the best policy” is a quote that is taught to people at a young age in order to allow them to grow to be honest, truthful adults. Truthfulness is tested in situations of tribulations, and even might be needed when asked for advice. Honesty can be very beneficial in these situations, but sometimes honesty can be taken harshly, and may end up hurting someone. Initially we may feel that if we always tell the truth no harm can come from it, but is the necessarily true? Considering these ideas, it seems that the effects of honesty are commonly good but every once in awhile have an unexpected outcome.…

Why shouldn’t we lie?:Lying breaks the basic rule of conduct that helps people get along in the world: treating others in the same way in which you would like to be treated. When you lie, it shows that you care more about yourself-and about what the false information can do for you-than about other people, who may face problems because of it. Imagine what your life would be like if people frequently lied to you. You would make all sorts of mistakes and be in a constant state of confusion, not knowing what was true and what was false. The world would be a crazy place if people couldn't trust one another to tell the truth.…

Lying only leads to more lying. If you lie once and someone calls you out on that lie then you have to create a bigger lie. You have to adapt to that lie and understand that the lie is the truth from then on. In some cases, it is better to speak the truth in a gentle way. Such as , if a woman were to ask you if she looks fat in a dress than find her a different dress and tell them that the new dress suits her better. However, In some cases its better to speak the truth in a cold hearted way.
