Holes Compare And Contrast Essay
Have you ever heard of the book Holes? If you have not you are missing out on a great book! It is about a boy who has to serve an accused prison camp session…. But it turns into a whole lot more after a couple of days! This book is a fiction book because most of the things accomplished in this story are way too realistic to be performed in real life. One thing that is way too realistic is the fact you can eat only onions and live 200 years without eating anything else! Another thing that is too realistic to happen in real life that happened in Holes is that a child wanted to drive a truck tricked an adult. The last thing that is too realistic is there are lizards that can kill a grown man in one bite didn’t kill a child and it didn’t bite …show more content…
The reason the author said everyone has a different side of the story is because the author wanted to make things more interesting for example, when Stanley “stole” the shoes, but when Zero explains that he stole the shoes, it actually is explains why there are certain points of view. Holes is similar to a book series called the 39 Clues because, both books show plot twists that literately no one expects out of books. Another reason why the 39 Clues and Holes are similar is because both have absolutely no pictures, which allow the reader to think of their own pictures. One last reason why the 39 Clues and Holes are similar is because both books have appealing beginning hooks so readers will stay interested for quite some time. The book Holes was very interesting for me and I would love to recommend the book to my friend Ayden because the book has a lot of action and interesting paragraphs, what my friend usually likes to read about. Another reason, why I recommend Holes to my friend Ayden is because it shows realistic and unreal stunts, it is another thing that my friend Ayden likes. Holes is a great book, which shows a lot of good reading elements and a lot of good humor, and I recommend to anyone who likes long but fun

The Kite Runner is the book I recommend more than The Color Purple by Alice Walker for incoming 9th Grade Honors students. The Kite Runner shows very emotional story of friendship, family, mistakes, and love. It was a very interesting book which caught my attention and drew me in. Although The Color Purple was a book about a less fortunate, uneducated, African-American fourteen-year-old girl who comes across struggles in her life so, began to writes letters to God to help and guide her. I don't recommend this book as much only because the book was written using slang which made it challenging to read and comprehend and The Color Purple not as entertaining.…

For my first free reading book of the trimester I read Hollow City by Ransom Riggs. This young adult novel is the second book following Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Ransom Riggs’ writing style was highly intriguing and drew me into the book almost as if I was there. Another great part of the book, was that on some pages it included pictures, which helped me understand the content better and to visualize what the characters look like as well as the setting. The book takes place in numerous places, for these peculiar children go on a wild goose chases throughout the book. This book was not what I would typically read, but I decided to try something new and I would definitely think anyone would enjoy this book because it has almost…

The novel Burried Onions by Gary Soto was an okay book to read. I do not relate to the sotry nor any of the characters in the book. I did not live in a bad neighborhood where “fences sagged and the paint blistered on houses”(pg.2). I never dropped out of anything unlike the protagonist Eddie “I had to dropped out of city college”(pg.3). I never worked yet or drove yet.…

Ace Anderson is a former star high school basketball player. As the story opens, he is driving home after being fired. Fearing the wrath of Evey, his wife, he finds some consolation in listening to "Blueberry Hill" on the car radio, while he sucks powerfully on a cigarette. Reverting to adolescence, Ace challenges the teenager in the fat car in the next lane, emerging triumphant when his opponent’s vehicle stalls. He then decides to stop at his mother’s house to pick up Bonnie, the baby. His mother offers him the consolation that he was probably seeking by welcoming his dismissal from a job that had no future. She also states that he and Bonnie are welcome in her house if Evey is too angry. Evey, she suggests, is a wonderful girl, but she is a Catholic and should have married one of her own kind. When Ace declines his mother’s offer, she changes the subject by informing him that his name is in the newspaper. Ace, remembering a former coach’s advice about avoiding cars when you…

The movie, The Crucible was written by Arthur Miller in 1952. It is about Salem witch trials that happened near the Massachusetts Bay during 1692 and 1693. Miller wrote the play because of McCarthyism. Before the court trials anyone, he had a lot of hearings before they chose who is guilty of witchcraft. When the court found out who was guilty, they would be hung between February 1692 and May 1693. Even though The Crucible is based on the Salem witch trials, the play and the movie are different in some ways like the relationship between John Proctor and Abigail Williams, and the towns’ reaction to the Putnam’s.…

Holes is a novel written by Louis Sachar published in 1998. The story revolves around Stanley Yelnats. He is falsely accused of stealing a pair of trainers, which were donated by Clyde Livingston “Sweet Feet” to a homeless shelter. When Stanley goes to trial he is given a choice between prison or Camp Green Lake. In a hurried decision him and his family choose Camp Green Lake without knowing that this place is a living nightmare, where you are forced to dig a 5ft wide and 5ft deep hole every day. He was expected to do this with very little food and water. This camp was definitely no girl scout.…

Louis Sachar, an American writer, once wrote, “A lot of people don’t believe in curses. A lot of people don’t believe in yellow-spotted lizards either, but if one bites you it doesn’t make a difference whether you believe or not” (Sachar 41). The book I read was Holes by Louis Sachar. This book is about a boy, named Stanley Yelnats, who is ‘cursed’ with bad luck. The ‘curse’ started with Stanley’s no-good pig stealing great great grandfather. During the early parts of the story, Stanley is arrested and sent to Camp Green Lake where boys go to ‘build character’. While at Camp Green Lake, the boy had to dig five foot by five-foot holes. They said this was to ‘build character’; however it was not. This was to try to find treasure buried by Kissin’…

My favorite book series is the The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It has five books and I’m reading the fifth one which is my favorite so far. I really like these books because they are really funny and always make me laugh. It is about a teenage boy, Greg that’s in eighth grade. He has dorky parents, an evil older brother who has a band called Loaded Diaper. He also has a three year old brother who is “innocent” and always gets what he wants. Life is tricky for Greg because he’s the middle child who is always getting beaten up by his older brother Rodrick and always gets the blame when it’s really little Manny’s fault. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid also has three movies but I prefer the books more.…
