High School Lunch System
It is the beginning of the school year and there are numerous changes at Stillwater Area High School that are now being implemented such as the new lunch schedule. With this new lunch schedule it adds an additional lunch giving us four lunches and cuts the normal lunch time of 30 minutes to 25 and here's why.
You see the reasoning of this additional fourth lunch is to accommodate for the rapid increase of students. For instance last year there was around 1,400 students that went to SAHS , this year there is about 2,200 students that attend SAHS. This is because the recent invitation to 9th graders to SAHS.
This year there has been a 25 percent increase in the SAHS student body. Because of this tremendous increase in students at SAHS, the school has had to find a solution for a different lunch system. This year the school it is required that all teachers with a 5th hour lunch prep be on lunch duty. Whereas in years prior it was voluntary with additional pay for doing it , this cuts into teachers prep time taking 25 minutes out of what they would normallly have if they didnt do lunch duty. In fact because the new Flex schedule and the new Four lunch's schedule, teachers are worried of covering the whole curriculum having only two normal days and less time in 5th hour than what they were given last year.
United States and World History teacher Christopher Engler who is apart of the lunch duty staff this year said “The new schedule is a problem for me because it takes away time from my 5th hour prep.” He also added “Teachers are very concerned about getting through there curricilm, because these new schedules takes time away from
