Hi Kalyn,

I absolutely love this piece. I love the detailed story behind it as well. Although the piece I choose was not very similar I wanted to discuss the similarity between our artist. My artist Lilly Martin Spencer was well known for her paintings of women. She was also daring, not for nude pieces, but the humor of domestic work that she evoked.

    In comparing The Grimm Brother’s “Little Red Cap” and Sharon Singer’s paintings of the infamous little red riding hood story, there are numerous similarities to be found. Singer’s painting “Fast Food”, depicts a dark and uncanny scene in which naked doll lies at the foot of bloody wolf paws. The naked doll in Singer’s bleak painting represents the vulnerability of Little Red Cap during her encounters with the wolf. Little Red Cap description as a “dear little girl” who was loved by anyone who “set eyes on her” works into Little Red Cap’s childish aurora connected by Singer’s naked doll (Tatar 13). The Grimm Brothers explain Little Red Cap “had no idea what a wicked beast [the wolf] was” during their first meeting, which characterizes Little Red Cap as a helpless and harmless young girl, with no knowledge of the dangers of society, such as a child (Tatar 14). Therefore, assessing Little Red Cap defenseless and innocent nature, there is a connection portrayed through the unclothed doll that lies at the foot of the wolf.     This one seems to fit in with the other art creations at the Jen library though, because around it the other works of art are almost the same in size, this helps give you an idea at how very large this other piece is. Unlike the first piece, this one has a wood base that is left unpainted or stained. Then close to the bottom left corner it has wood planks with white plaster on them all laid pointing outwards from a circle in the center, it reminds one very much of a giant daisy without a yellow center, unlike the top one you get a happy feeling because of this bright beautiful flower. The planks however are torn at the end, and this beautiful daisy starts to look more battered and worn down, it’s kind of sad. Placed above the hole where the yellow pollen of a flower should lay is three rows of five blocks. All of the blocks are made of foam and painted a bright pink, and they are all lined up in straight rows and are uniform, except for one at the bottom left, that one is slightly tilted. In the end I loved how this looked, and when going deeper into the meaning you can really see why this connects so well with the other darker art…

    At the El Paso Museum of Art I saw many beautiful and wonderful paintings and sculptures but the “The Portrait” was the sculpture that caught my attention the most. “The Portrait” was sculpted by Frances Bagley an American artist born on April 7, 1946 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Frances Bagley lives and works in Dallas, Texas. “The Portrait” was created in 1997 and it is made out of stainless steel and marble. I believe that “The Portrait” is an interesting piece of art because it resembles exactly what the title says. It is a portrait of a the artist or a portrait of woman. The sculpture has shape and contour which is the shape of a woman like in a night gown. The sculpture has mass. It also has texture because in the stainless steel you can see that is shine and smooth and the marble is not finish so you can see that is rough. It has color because even if the marble is rough it has different colors. It has proportion and scale in the part of the body from top to bottom as well it does have the proper scale to simulate a woman sitting down. “The Portrait” has design, unity, and aesthetic because the whole piece is appealing to eye since it resembles the shape of a woman with the different pieces of rough marble place inside of the stainless structure and even if the materials does not have a glamorous touch the sculpture does captivate the viewers attention because of its has beauty. But most important the portrait has content and iconography because the piece is portraying a woman that is always beautiful even in her simplest form and it also resembles the meaning that a woman has in society as a strong person because it gives life to their children and as the foundation of the family.     I went to the Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas, located on 3275 Industrial road (major cross-street Desert Inn) which opened in August of 2008. At the museum it holds, erotic art, exhibits, different timelines and a lot of illustrated history of erotica. There were many tasteful pieces of artwork, whether it be painting, magazine covers, posters, figures, and sculptures. I was also very excited to have actually seen the piece called “Venus of Willendorf” that is featured in our book on page 164. I took my time looking at all the different pictures to see which I would choose from to write about. Then I observed one, it was untitled, made in 2008 and the artists name is Fang. I did research on the artist and did not find much on her other than the fact that she is called “The ugly artist”. Fangs paintings have a BDSM feel for them and use acrylic on canvas. The particular picture I seen was of two beautiful women, one was dominant and the other a submissive. Both women had contour lines to show their figures off. Most of the colors were very vivid and had high intensity in it. The dominant woman wore a under bust patent leather type of corset with attached panties, and matching knee high stiletto boots. The submissive was totally undressed except for a shiny red o ring posture collar. The dominant woman had spider web tattoos on each shoulder that a spider connected to underneath her neckline. Both women had beautiful long flowing lines of black hair, with blue highlights. Bright red lipstick on both women and dark smoky eye makeup. The dominant woman’s facial expression was of confidence and superiority, while the submissive woman looked upwards as if to gain a sense of approval.…

    Ernest “Ernie” Eugene Barnes Jr. was considered to be one of the leading artists in the world. He is popularly known for his portrait titled “Sugar Shack” which was featured in the 1970s sitcom, Good Times. These are the thoughts that came to my head as I gazed at two works of art by two Mexican artists at MoLAA museum of art . I visited two museums, Bowers Museum of cultural Art in the heart of Southern California and the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach for my report unfortunately I only liked the works in MoLAA and will talk about it through out my paper. I will talk about two Mexican artists Rafael Cauduro and David Alfaro Siqueros that caught my eye, and made me want to learn more of them and their approach to art. Siqueiros caught my eye and interest because according to his biography "no individual associated with the arts with the possible exception of André Malraux, had been involved in direct political action more than David Alfaro Siqueiros" (Siqueiros Biography online). Personally that to me said a lot and that got me intrigued, and made me want to know more about him and his work. Cauduro on the other hand got me intrigued through his illusionistic approach to art and interpretation of his view of things. Eve thought they seem like different approach to art they are both similar in different ways.…
