Half My Facebook Friends Are Ferret Analysis
A bond between two people is friendship despite there being many varieties. Looking for Alaska by John Green and Half my Facebook Friends are Ferrets by J. A. Buckle both have excellent examples of the theme of friendship with the main characters, Miles “Pudge” Halter in Looking for Alaska, and Joshua “Josh” Walker in Half my Facebook Friends are Ferrets. Through comparing and contrasting, the differences and similarities between the two events will be examined.

In Half my Facebook Friends are Ferrets, the major event in which the theme of friendship was mainly shown was between Josh and his friend, Peter. Josh showed the theme of friendship when he gave almost five-hundred dollars to Peter, helping him pay a phone bill for using a gay

Pudge and the others showed the theme of friendship when a their close friend, Alaska Young died. Pudge, the Colonel, Takumi, and Lara, pulled a risky prank which would cause each of them to be expelled immediately if it was found that one of them were involved in the prank. The Colonel and Alaska had come up with the prank and were going to do it the next year as it would be senior year. However, because Alaska had passed, the Colonel decided it was best to execute the prank in their junior year so the prank would be dedicated to Alaska. The prank involved a recommendation for a “speaker” from Pudge’s father who would prepare a presentation on sexuality in teenagers for Speakers Day. The dean of students, Mr. Starnes, accepted the “speaker”. Little did he know, the “speaker” was actually a male stripper hired by the Colonel and Pudge. The prank was executed seamlessly and no one was expelled. Pudge and the others risked getting expelled for a prank because of their friendship and love for each other existed. It would not have happened if someone dear to their hearts had …show more content…
The consequence in Half my Facebook Friends are Ferrets was if Peter did not pay the phone bill for the gay chatline he would have gone to court and possibly gone to a Juvenile Delinquent Center. Josh saw there was a dire consequence which could have resulted in several other consequences for Peter. Fortunately, all of Peter’s consequences did not occur because Josh was generous with his money. Pudge and his friends faced the consequence of getting expelled for Alaska’s memory-prank tribute. The Colonel knew that even though Alaska was dead, they (Pudge, the Colonel, Takumi, and Lara) owed her the prank for she had done as their friend. Everyone knew the prank was risky, but if the prank was successful (which it was), Alaska would have been remembered for how she was, a girl with green eyes and a prankster. Doing something that has dire consequences for a friend shows the theme of friendship in both Josh’s and Pudge’s cases because the two showed that they cared more for their friends than themselves regardless of the consequences.
Although Looking for Alaska and Half my Facebook Friends are Ferrets are different, through comparing and contrasting the events in the two books, Pudge and Josh care immensely for their friends. Even if they were in danger, they would do almost

Friendship is defined by Webster as the state of being friends, friendly relation, or attachment, to a person, or between persons. Webster further states that friendship can also be describe as affection arising from mutual esteem, good will, friendliness, and amity. Friendship is considered to be an essential aspect of everyone’s life, as we are not self sufficient in and of ourselves. Friendship, as the world sees it, is a bond between two individuals that should not involve betrayal but should exhibit each individual as being trustworthy and loyal. In many cases, friendships, despite their necessities, are either forced or morally required to end because several components of the friendship have been ruined. We have substituted face-to face encounters with Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. In William Deresiewicz’s, article “Faux Frienship”, he identifies friendship as “a high calling, demanding extraordinary qualities of character –rooted in virtue” and he supports this perception of friendship by historical events and comparisons of romantic partners, parents and children and friendship in the workplace.…

Friends come in all colors, sizes, and shapes. Some are lightweight – casual friends – good for sharing fun times with. Others end up closer than family. They are like “blood brothers and sisters” who might even die for us if it came to that. Some friends are “hit and run.” They are intense today, but gone tomorrow. Other friendships are “forever.” They are not headline material, perhaps, but they are as durable as a rock. Some friendships reward us with nice feeling and nice fuzzies. Other friendships pay much higher dividends, like loyalty, respect, and even commitment.…
