"Approximately 46% of the lakes in America are too polluted for fishing, aquatic life, or swimming." Pollution is a problem because it is affecting the nation, for the worse; and recycling is the best solution. At the rate the world is going, global warming, human health, food supply and rising seas will all be increased immensely. The world as it is, is already polluted to a point of no-return. We must do something about it Now. Major companies around the world such as General Electric, Coca-Cola, Home Depot, etc. are going green. Not the color green, but are helping the community and the world to be a greener, healthier place for us all. More and more companies are helping out the worlds, yet some are only making it worse with harsh air pollution. As of today Americans make up 4% of the world’s population, yet we produce 25% of the world’s carbon dioxide pollution, from fossil fuel burning. That’s more than China, Japan, & India combined. And every minute the U.S. uses $million dollars worth of energy

The world and places of our ancestors, of which some died for, are not being taken over, but rather being destroyed by greedy money-making companies. However, some companies with integrity are helping the Earth in its time of need by planting trees, making cars that run on electricity, or even as little as choosing paper instead of plastic.

Such companies discussed earlier are making the world greener by doing things such as making better fuel efficient cars that require less gas than other cars or using paper instead of plastic bags, or even little things such as using less plastic and planting more and more trees. General Electric for example is making solar panels which run on the ever-running power of the sun, instead of using traditional light bulbs which run on electricity. Also even making light bulbs that last longer, and are much more environmentally friendly. Another example is Honda; the most fuel-efficient auto company in the U.S It is making cars that run on gases and electricity rather than the polluting gasoline. Bank of America is probably doing the most rewarding environmentally contribution by actually giving employees 3,000 dollars cash back just for going out and buying an environment saving hybrid.

I disagree with Leon Botstein's essay "Let Teenagers Try Adulthood". Botstein argues that teenagers have matured much more quickly over the past few years. Therefore, he believes high school be abolished and a child's education should begin earlier in order for students to graduate around the age of sixteen rather than eighteen. High school is intended for students of a certain maturity level. But now, students are exceeding that level rapidly. Botstein sees high school as a place full of superficial, adolescent teenagers that care more about appearances, popularity, cliques and sports than education. Because they have reached a high maturity level at such a young age already, there are many students that are wasting their junior and senior years away in high school rather than starting college. I disagree with Botstein however. High school is a transition period for students to learn how to take on more responsibilities. It is the time for teenagers to become more social and independent. While I do agree with Botstein on his point of maturity levels growing faster, I don't agree that students should be graduating earlier than they currently are. Not all students are capable of the same things. Most high school students are not prepared to enter into adulthood just yet. They still need someone to guide them along a path until they've graduated. Age restrictions are applied to the youth community for a reason. The majority of teenagers are not ready to handle the responsibilities that come their way. The legal age for drinking is 21 because of safety concerns as well as the responsibility that comes with the consumption of alcohol. Fortunately for Texas, teenagers are able to obtain their drivers license at the age of sixteen, but other states, like California, have citizens wait until they are eighteen to obtain their license with the same privileges as a sixteen year old from Texas. Responsibilities are tough to handle, even for an adult. So why have the same…

In many cases, most people in the United States; even around the world do not acknowledge that our planet is being polluted by coal plants and other industrialized nations. Climate change is a problem and threat to the world. In the reading of “Environmental Warriors Going To The Root Of The Problem” by Greg Jobin- Leeds and AgitArte, it talked mainly about the Earth being polluted and the reasons for that. The people that aren’t wealthy are affected by the plants that are built in the cities around them. The non wealthy do not have the authority to stand up and make the environment better for themselves.…

Explanation of your response: China has the largest population in the world. People would assume with such a large population, consumption of natural resources would be great as well. However, Americans consume far more than any other nation on the planet. Americans consume more than three times the global average of 80 pounds per person per year. Asians consume the least, at 13 pounds per person per year. Since the last century, the United States has been struggling immensely with air and water pollution, deforestation and overpopulation. These struggles are due to poor prevention planning and industrial demonstration. Unfortunately, it is not only the United States that needs to change. Many other countries are going through the same struggle. Prevention and preservation is up to every person, business, and government organization by changing the way we all reduce, reuse, and recycle products to change the bad habits humans have been senselessly doing in the past century. Taking care of our most precious resources and preserving them for our future generations to…

The essay "Save the Whales, Screw the Shrimp" written by Joy Williams is about the problem that we are not taking care of the environment or seeing the truth of it all as well as we should be. Because we are too blind and lazy to solve the problems with everything around us, such as the animals and the plants that keep us alive everything is just getting worse. We’ve made it our nature to take things that are available and use them until it’s gone. We are using all of our resources thinking that we’ll always have access to it and it has caused a problem for the environment. Environmentalists are trying to find ways to get more people involved in making the United States more environmentally friendly. Should they be doing this, is it even worth it to try? It should be but who knows if people will really listen.…

Did you know that nearly 5.5 million people, over 1 million seabirds, and 100,000 sea mammals die each year due to pollution? California itself has 21,000 annual deaths caused by air pollution. Pollution makes up 40% of all the deaths caused worldwide. This is why I believe that we should keep our environment clean. Reducing pollution can lower death rates and reduce our risks of global warming.…

In the last few years our culture has dramatically changed. We have gone from kids playing outside all day till the streetlights turned on to now surfing the internet alone at home. We know that physical activity is important to our health. Physical education helps our children improve their knowledge on health and lead them to practices that will benefit their future wellbeing. Some schools do not require students to participate in physical education classes; they don’t seem to realize how important it is for kids to be physically active. The sudden rise in obesity in young children has become a great concern in America. Physical education should be required every year for all public school students.…
