Everyone needs a hero to look up to. People idolize heroes simply because of their admirable character traits. Examples of heroic characters would be Odysseus from Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey and Spaz from The Last Book in the Universe by Rodman Philbrick. The Odyssey is about the arduous journey home of Odysseus after the Trojan War. The Last Book in the Universe is about Spaz’s strenuous journey to see his sister, Bean, who has terminal cancer. Though both of these figures are honorable, Odysseus is the better epic hero than Spaz because he possesses more traits of an epic hero.…

Manifest Destiny was mainly a selfish and egotistical ideal that inspired Americans to flock westward during the 1840s. The term is defined as the belief that westward expansion was the God-given right of Americans, even their duty, to spread their population to the West all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It was extremely damaging to several parties who found themselves in the path of the hordes of migrants, yet Americans came to be pompous and arrogant, considering their democratic lifestyles better than any other in the world. Blinding themselves to the injustices of their expansion, America spread west.…

Death can be written in many ways throughout poetry. Authors may sometimes use their own experience to write about what death means to them. Their words and writing styles are different than others who have the same theme in their poetry. This is what makes poetry so unique and beautiful. To be able to determine what each author’s difference is, you must analyze and compare their poems. This will help see how one theme can be written in multiple ways. In the poems, “Funeral Blues”, “Don’t Go Gentle Into That Good Night”, and “To The Mercy Killers”, the authors have described their theme, being death, in very different ways.…

It is becoming common practice to note how gender is presented in the media. Nowadays media is so much more accessible than it has been in the past because more people are being exposed to it. In lecture, Dr. Lovas spoke about how we learn gender roles through experience and what we witness; and in turn influence our gender role norms. In their study of gender in Disney movies, Towbin, Haddock, Zimmerman, Lund, and Tanner (2004) said, “The accumulated experience [of media exposure] contributes to the cultivation of a child’s values, beliefs, dreams, and expectations, which shape the adult identity a child will carry and modify through his or her life.” With this in mind, it is reasonable to assume that media has a grave effect on how we construct our own behaviors.…

This is the time of the year when we pause and think about the things we are thankful for. Are you thankful for anything? You may be thankful for food, sports, friends, or anything but everyone is thankful for something. You might have different reasons why you’re thankful than me and maybe different reasons. This Thanksgiving I’m thankful for my family, basketball, and Donald Trump.…

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you on your appointment to the WRSX Board. As you know, I was on the interview panel that selected you and I have no doubt in my mind that you have much to contribute to the company. I was always in favour of bringing in someone from outside the industry and I am sure that your experience and your ability to see the big strategic picture and your fresh thinking will be of great benefit to those of us who have spent our lives in the industry. However, you should never forget what our business is all about – our job is to help our clients establish their brands through the range of services we offer – and sell more of their products or services to consumers or business customers – where required on a global basis. As an incoming director you will want to know the state of the industry – and specifically the state of WRSX Group as you join the Board. Well, the industry is going through a period of great change. We are witnessing an unprecedented proliferation in media options and dramatic growth in the time that people spend viewing digital channels. These provide us and our clients with a complex range of tools for getting product and brand information to individuals at precisely the right time in the consideration and purchase cycle. This provides both an opportunity and a challenge to the industry. You can learn more about this by listening to the report by one of our Business Analysts. Last year’s results for the WRSX Group can probably best be described as adequate. Not setting the world on fire but not awful either. We have not made as much progress as I would have hoped in bringing our costs under control. We have also lost some talented people from the Group in the last year – particularly in the US - and they have taken some major clients with them. We have also lost clients as a result of the corruption scandal that rocked the company last…
