Govt. Delegate vs Trustee

In a democracy where citizens are given the right to choose who will represent them, there is always the debate on what type of representative should be elected to best embody the people of which that representative is responsible for. When deciding to elect an official, it proves to be more beneficial to elect a delegate representative over a trustee. Along with being informed about the issues about the district in which they represent, a delegate representative will work to support the specific citizens in the district, where as a trustee representative may not.

Electing a delegate proves to make the district’s citizens happy as well since delegates tend to have some of the highest re-election rates in their districts. High re-election rates among delegate Congressmen may be due to the high satisfaction rate among citizens when they recognize that their concerns have been recognized in higher levels of government thanks to the help of delegates making sure that the voices of those in their districts are heard.
A trustee differs from a delegate in the fact that a trustee must be trusted that their motives are in the best interest of the district that they represent, instead of focusing on what their particular party may want. Another advantage to electing a delegate congressman is that they will work to stay informed on the issues of their district, which will allow them to best represent the people who elected them.
