Gifted Education Curriculum Analysis
In completing this activity, I learned that the method for evaluating, selecting, and implementing textbooks is a long process that requires input from various stakeholders in a district. The cycle for curriculum review in our district spans six years. During this time, we evaluate multiple textbooks in every subject area to narrow down options, recommend the best textbook to our board of education, implement new materials that staff develop to supplement the textbook, develop and enhance both formative and summative assessments, and review data to make revisions. I learned that building administration, superintendents, teachers, and students all play a vital role in the process. Our assistant superintendent of academic services researches and orders textbooks from various companies. The superintendent, building administration, and teachers evaluate the textbooks to narrow it down to three options. Then, they take lessons from the top three textbooks and try them with students. Students are asked to evaluate their engagement in the lessons and how well the lesson met their needs as a learner.

Since gifted teachers do not have a set of standards or objectives required by the state, I have noticed that every gifted teacher has different curriculum. I would like to know more about the texts that are available for gifted learners, and if these text meet any of the common core standards for any grade levels. I think talking with my mentor, Kim Krueger, could help me to learn more about this topic. She has been teaching for over 25 years, and she has worked with a lot of different units and in many subject areas. I would also like to see what publishers specialize in gifted educations, and what options they have for curriculum in the gifted classroom. I could research this to become more familiar with curriculum options for gifted

The Blackfoot School District has gone through many leadership changes in the past 5 years. We have had three different super intendents, and 5 out of 6 elementary principals changed schools. I think that the district is doing better at curriculum planning now that leadership changes are settling down. The district also hired a new curriculum director that is amazing and very well organized. I am excited to see all her hard work continue to improve our district. I also had no idea how much planning and organizing went into curriculum changes. I thought that a committee was formed, written curriculum examples and pilots were given out, and then the committee got together and made a recommendation after piloting material. After reading this…

In this novel a young girl named Susie Salmon was brutally raped and killed by a man in her neighbourhood. Her case is still an ongoing investigation but little to no proof leads towards the man who committed the crime. Lindsey, Susie’s little sister, is a very talented and intelligent girl. She was invited to attend the Gifted Symposium for her intelligence. Lindsey goes away to this symposium with other students in junior and high school. At the very end of the symposium, the students are given a challenge, normally it's to create the best mouse trap, but they changed it up this year. The new challenge was how to commit the perfect murder. I think the Gifted Symposium was wrong by initiating a How to commit the perfect murder challenge, because it’s a touchy subject.…

As a parent I have become concerned about the new state-mandated, textbook-based curriculum for Kindergarten. I have decided to write a letter to the school board to protest the new policy. In the letter I will define DAP, the benefits with examples, why I believe the use of the textbook-based curriculum may be inappropriate. I will give reasons for the potential negative effects of the textbook-based curriculum and how it can be developmentally inappropriate to literacy development. In my closing argument I will suggest an alternative approach to developing literacy skills.…

Countless people have not enjoyed a school book assignment given by a teacher. Considering this, students should be able to designate the books for their following school year. The Gulf Shores Middle School eighth grade English teacher is trying to decide if she should choose the books to read next year or grant the students the freedom to undergo the decision. All reading standards would be the same. The obvious choice would be to let the students choice the books for the reasons listed: Students choosing would be more involved and interested, teachers would be adept to read new books every year, and a whole classes idea for books is better than one person's.…

Also after reading the handout, and the PowerPoint presentation; along with the New Jersey Core Curriculum standards, and the NCLB Act, I've realized that, one who leads a school or an facility that house students must develop a curriculum that best suits all students. This may become successful by, (1) developing the knowledge base. (2) Identify the constraints and resources.(3) Determine the criteria to be used in evaluating the present program of studies. (4) Use the criteria in designing a comprehensive evaluation. (5) Systematize data, make final assessments for each criterion, and report results in a public document. (6) Discuss the final report with parents and teachers and prepare a strategy for action. (Glatthorn & Jailall, 2009, p. 79).…

This suggests, the evaluator believed that the developers of the Family and Friends 2 need to select the content of textbooks with the new principles of learning and teaching. The textbook needs more attention on this important aspect which relates to sequencing the content of the materials to be interrelated and arranged on the basis of difficulty. The evaluator found the topics and the activities fairly interesting and motivating. The Family and Friends 2 considered offering appropriate tasks and activities.
