Finlands is worldly renowned as the number one school system. Why is this? Finland's pupils spend an average of three hours a week doing homework while American students spend an average of six hours a week (Klein). Studies found that this is three times too much homework(Wallace). Despite the substantial difference in homework, Finland’s high school graduation rates compare to American graduation rates (Kamenetz) (Coughlan). The key to Finland’s is not homework, but personalized learning.
Finland’s education focuses on individual growth much more than the American education system (Doyle). Students are tested rarely but “Instead, children are assessed every day, through direct observation, check-ins and quizzes...”
