Epidemiologists from the University of Colmar have been notified of an outbreak of patients with gastrointestinal symptoms by the Public Health Centre of the University of Colmar. A random sample survey has been conducted amongst The Islands in order to determine the location of the gastrointestinal outbreak. The survey has determined that the occupants of Gordes are more likely to be experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms than other communities within the region. To reduce the risk however, participants will be required to research safe food handling techniques.
Within female participants, it is also likely that their bowel movements will change when menstruating. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done during this period, so when women are recording their frequency of stools they will also need to comment what days they menstruated.
Pregnant women will not be considered for the trial, as there are no current clinical studies to suggest whether the preventative measures alone will reduce the risk of gastrointestinal infection.
There are also diseases such as some cancers, diabetes, IBS, over-active thyroid that cannot be managed as it is a symptom to an often incurable disease. Participants will be checked to see if they suffer from these diseases and will be not considered for the study due to their health implications.
There is a possibility that people will not wish to partake in the study, due to the recording of stool frequency, which would make the study challenging to initiate. This can be controlled by only requiring a small amount of participants, but also being able to study a number of people that will cause a significant
