Freshman Year Essay

Freshman year is a year full of firsts. First year of high school, first homecoming dance, first football game, and for me, my first C on an English paper. I knew I was not a spectacular writer, but I was still taken aback. What would my parents think? I had never brought home a C in my entire schooling career. This low score was unexpected, even for my teacher, Mrs. Chen, as she informed us many of her students did poorly and offered after school tutoring for help. Concerned about my grade, I decided to attend the tutoring session. The paper was an analysis on a movie we watched in class, and I was not familiar with how to write an analysis yet. Together, we read my paper sentence by sentence, pointing out each mistake. She explained to me how I had to be more specific, as general statements do not count as analysis. I needed to include more specific details from the movie to support my theme. The skills she taught me that day have carried on with me, all the way up to my senior year.

Senior year is a year full of lasts. Last year of high school, last prom, last football game, but not the last of my writing career. This year has taught me more about writing than I ever could have imagined. At the beginning of year, it was as simple as developing a theme with green words. This progressed
This year has taught me that the most important thing to remember is to be clear, specific, and answer the prompt. By doing all of these things, I will find success, whether I am writing a research paper or analyzing poem. The lessons I have learned in this class will carry on with me through college. Although I am majoring in business, I know these skills will help me in any class I take. My clever mind will allow me to continue to create funny puns for the enjoyment of my Twitter followers, and maybe will even lead me to a poetry career one
