Engraved, chased, and etched, the interlacing Celtic-like scrolls and knots wrap delicately and symmetrically around the vessel. Serpentine handles flank the widest and uppermost portion of the vase while twin stylized bird head figures frame the rim. In the center of the vase sits a stylized Viking-like mask or helmet. Symmetrically placed gemstones adorn the vase from the rim to the foot, while contrasting matte lavender, light green, and golden yellow enamels sit just behind the gleaming silver scroll patterns and echo the colors of the gemstones.…

At the Montclair Art Museum, located in the Rand Gallery of Native American Art, there is a tall statue made of Bronze and Jetulong wood, standing tall behind a glass case, called Pueblo Maiden. The figure is long and lean, and towers over many of the other artifacts in the gallery. The bronze color of the figure is constant throughout the sculpture. The head is small and round. The hairstyle is short and square shaped. It is similar to a women’s “bob” hairstyle with bangs that covers the figures forehead and ears. The surface of sculpture is smooth. The face features two indentations which look like closed eyes and a rectangle shape for the nose but there is no indentation for a mouth. The head of the figure rests on a narrow shaped neck.…

The main Buddha wears whole-shoulder Kasaya on top of a Saṃkakṣikā whose hands displays the Dhyana-Mudra form and body in Lotus Position. The middle part is carved with the Maitreya and two Bodhisattvas while the side carvings contain two supporting Bodhisattvas, Apsaras with music instruments, horse-head human body and bird-head human body divinities. The mid column depicts architectural elements including corridors, a pavilion, doors and etc. Within the pavilion on the left sits a Maitreya with a man on horse approaching him. In the relief Ashurbanipal is highly decorated both in appearance and stature; his head is draped with a crown that has a flower design, which also reoccurs on his tunic from his waist down to the first break. His hair is neatly formed under the crown and his beard is neatly formed denoting his status as someone of power due to its size and style. His left hand is out-stretched grabbing the lions throat while his right hand holding a sword thrusting it into the lions abdomen. One would also notice the carved detail in his right hand showing the forearms muscles while holding the hilt of the sword. Also in his left arm he is holding a bow around his shoulders. Ashurbanipal’s upper portion of his tunic is detailed with horizontal and vertical lines which make it look like it is some form of stippling. The lower portion of his tunic is detailed with geometric flower shapes and has seven breaks total. The other six breaks have circular shapes or diagonal lines. His calves are also detailed with some form of hatched texture perhaps some form of chainmail. This figure is wearing some form of footwear that is bound by threads wrapped around his ankle to his calves.…
