Feasibility Study
Memorandum
To: John James, President
From: Recycling Committee
Date: 10/22/2013
Re: Progress Report of Recycling Program
INTRODUCTORY SUMMARY Seven weeks ago, you expressed a commitment to maintaining our corporate responsibility by implementing a recycling policy to improve the quality of environment. This initial progress report will give you detailed information about the specifics of where we, the recycling committee, stand on getting this program implemented. As specified in first meeting of this committee, the duration of the project would be approximately 8 weeks and involve 4 phases:

Phase 1: Conduct a feasibility study
Phase 2: Create a policy and procedure document
Phase 3: Document simplified instruction guide with illustrations
Phase 4: Send a specification memo
Phase 5: Implement the recycling program

I am pleased to report that Phases 1-4 has been completed and. According to my analysis, a recycling program stands a great chance of assisting the company with maintaining its corporate responsibility while improving the quality of the environment.

WORK COMPLETED
1. On August 11, we began the first phase of our project. We conducted a feasibility study by researching the topic of recycling on the internet and reporting on our results. We began the study by thinking about what items could be recycled at Greening Corporation. Then we wrote a two-page report that addressed three categories of waste products to be considered for recycling; paper, plastic, and electronics. We determined that items such as white or office paper, newspapers, plastic water and soda bottles, and retired computers are ideal for office recycling. We also determined that items, such as pizza boxes, Styrofoam cups, plastic bowls and plates, paper towels and tissues are not recyclable. After speaking with an expert about the benefits and disadvantages of recycling, company we decided that the best way to haul these items away is to have our current waste disposal company collect the recycled waste as an added service.
2. On August 31, we began working on Phase 2. We created a policy and procedure document for the implementation of the new recycling program at Greening Corporation. We successfully conducted an audience analysis of our current employees and created a policy statement worthy of the Greening Corporation name. In addition to the policy, we created procedures that identified the three categories of items that we deemed common office recyclable items in Phase 1 and specified which products in each category that can be recycled.
3. Phase 3 began on September 8. In this phase the committee collaborated to write three basic instructions using illustrations to encourage our employees to recycle correctly. We began by conducting research on the NAPCOR website to help us identify three bin styles that we could eventually recommend for recycling. We decided on the “Mega Bin Blue Recycling Bin”, “The Recycle Away Receptacles”, and “The Busch System- Super Sorter Series”. Then we created “How To” graphics and instructions for each container. We came to a conclusion that these instructions should be placed directly on the recycle bins or be posted near the containers.
4. Phase 4 took place on September 15, when we made recommendations to Janis Caroll, the Facilities Department Manager, and the facilities department so that they can order recycling containers and set up the recycling stations. We provided information on how the recycling will be handled and the physical locations of the containers including landmarks and measurements for each recycling container.
WORK PLANNED As mention in Phase 4, we have sent a recommendations and specifications memorandum to the facilities department. At this time we are still waiting to get an update from Janis Caroll as to when we will be able to have the recycle bins delivered to us and setup in their proper locations. The deadline for delivery and setup of the recycle bins is September 28, 2013.

CONCLUSION Heading this committee has giving me a better understanding of the importance of teamwork and corporate responsibility. It is my expectation that we will be able to implement the recycling program on schedule. I truly believe that this recycling program will help us maintain corporate responsibility. In addition, this program will also build our reputation within the community by being cognizant about the environment.
I look forward to hearing your suggestions and concerns about the progress of the recycling committee’s project. Please feel free to contact me direct at 904-555-1234.

Recycling has been a well known idea for so many years, but now we need it more than ever. Now in the world there are so many problems with the environment like Global Warming, toxic waste, and not to mention not recycling is very costly but recycling reduces the landfill space, helps conserves natural resources, and reduces the production of greenhouse gases . When you recycle you also help save animals so the rims of a six pack of soda doesn’t end up blocking a fish's gills or a plastic bag getting eaten by a turtle and having it choke on the bag. Recycling can also be a group effort where you get a group of people from your community, school, church, job, or just you and your friends so not only your saving the environment but your having fun with people you know while doing it.…

4.1 The benefits of recycling are beneficial for the environment. As a Council we impose recycling on residents so, therefore, we must set an example and also recycle our waste as much as is possible. It is beneficial to recycle and irresponsible not to do so as there is a finite supply of paper/wood/glass, etc and plastic does not biodegrade readily so unless we recycle these items we add to problems of supply, deforestation and waste disposal…

Producing electricity is the number one cause of air pollution in the United States. Lighting is up to 35% of America’s electricity consumption. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a one hundred-watt bulb for twenty hours, a computer for three hours, or a TV for two hours. Americans throw away enough aluminum every month to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet. All of these are reasons why recycling should become a mandatory process in which the world’s population should participate. Making recycling mandatory would save us crucially scarce resources and would drastically reduce pollution in land, sea, and air.…
