Experience El Salvador Program
For me, participating in the Experience El Salvador program would be an unforgettable opportunity. I have always loved to give back to the world and others in any way that I can. About a year and a half ago, there was a Christian children’s choir that visited and performed at my church. This choir in particular consisted of children who had been saved from horrifying living conditions in third world countries and were given the opportunity to have better lives and travel the world singing about their love for God. Words cannot even describe how much I was deeply touched to hear the stories of where many of these children came from and how some were even on the verge of death. The testimonials of how God brought them through those difficult times were indescribably powerful. I have always known that I want to travel …show more content…
The children were so happy and thankful for notebooks, folders, and pencils. It was amazing. Aside from these life-changing experiences, I also have experience working with children. At my church I serve in the 2nd to 5th grade classroom and I volunteer many times for child care when there are big meetings at the church. Spending time with those children week after week just lights up my day seeing them love to learn about God. I also spent a few months working at my old martial arts school as an assistant instructor in the after school program. I had so much fun working with the kids and it would make me so happy to see them succeed. Now, I currently do observations for one of my classes at a child care center with preschool children. Each week the children never fail to make me smile and laugh and I just love having the opportunity to learn from them. Giving back to the world means a great amount to me. Being able to participate in the Experience El Salvador program would be a tremendous way for me along with my peers to give back to those who don’t have the opportunities that I

One organization that I’m involved at Goucher College is the Futuro Latino Learning center (FLLC). This program provides opportunities specifically to the Latino community of Baltimore County. The students of Goucher College teach classes and there is ESL and basic computer training. Students are not only helping the Latino community but they get the opportunity to speak Spanish and improve their language skills. In my first year of college I helped with teaching a class; I was the assistant tutor. Now this year I am helping out with the children program playtime and cultural program. While the adults are taking their classes they drop off their children. This program provides a safe space and for children to learn about their culture and speak…

Conflict between two idea is an inevitable situation in a country, regardless of its resources, moral support, or any unifying idea of any sort that comes about, even over time. El Salvador had had a growing problem of the way its’ government was treating its’ population at the time due to the way the government was structured, and this lead to a demand for a better life. Even in the original 13 colonies, there was always something that the colonists conflicted over with the imperial power, which leads the question, how does the history of suppression in El Salvador and America during the years of conflict in the Salvadoran Civil War, and the American Revolution shape the countries they are today? The American Revolution and the Salvadoran…

This past summer I had the incredible opportunity to go on a mission trip in Ecuador where I worked in an orphanage partaking in labor work, as well as, traveled out into the cities bordering Quito to organize VBSs (vacation bible schools)in startup churches . In beginning of the trip I expected the work I would participate in would be life changing to those in its wake. My expectations were highly set and the outcome did not match up; in fact, the outcome was quite the opposite. In the short week I spent in Ecuador, I realized almost immediately that the problems that needed to be mended were much larger than a group of fifty people could overcome in one week. There was so much need, and an insufficient amount of resources to provide for it. Nevertheless, I was…

A dozen squealing, laughing little girls tugged my arms, legs and hands. They were so excited to show me their bedroom. Meeting all the orphans at the Colima, Mexico orphanage was very overwhelming and very emotional. At first, I felt very out of place, like seeing grass during a Michigan winter. All these kids surrounding me right now have no families and have nobody to love them. These kids were all beautiful in their own way and really knew how to make you smile without even trying. They were like flowers in a rundown parking lot. Beautiful but with a dark, sad background. Everytime they looked at you, you could see the excitement in their eyes.…

At the age of 10, my parents encouraged me to volunteer as an altar server in the church. Good thing they did because this helped me to overcome stage fright and to see life from a bigger perspective, a world where everyone deserves a good quality of life and freedom. The high point of this lesson came when I participated in World Youth Day in Poland in 2016. I encountered many cultures through…

I was granted the opportunity to work with the children and teachers of Coal Pit Learning Center for community engagement week. I worked with the children throughout the week to provide relief to the exhausted teachers and be a person who can look over the children. I was gifted the opportunity to work with a variety of children of ages from 3-5. My first day was tiring, but full of excitement. The children were a mix of shy and excited as we walked into their classroom for the very first time. I thought to myself, as my 3 classmates and I were thrown into the chaos of a group of 3 and 4 year olds, what I should be doing to help. But there was no need for the teachers to explain to us what to do, the children immediately gave us jobs of playing with them or making us watch them race their cars around the room. The week turned out to be a wonderful learning experience for me and the people I worked with.…

I was involved in many service learning experiences all throughout highschool. I was on National Honors Society and we would ring bells for Salvation Army and adopt children around Christmas time. We often volunteered at schools to help watch children, while parents were receiving help in finding careers or when they were being helped in some other manner. However, my favorite service learning that I was involved in was helping coach Special Olympics. This service learning is one of the reasons I am becoming a teacher, and one of the main reasons why my focus is Special Education. I coached my team in soccer, basketball, and track. I loved every minute of it. I spent more time with those kids than I have with any other service learning combined. I coached them starting my sophomore year all the way until I left for college. It was hard leaving my team and I am upset that I cannot go back and see them more often. Service learning has made a huge impact on my life and is something that everyone should become involved with. When you find that one cause that you are passionate about helping with it can transform your life like it did…

Helping people is one of my biggest hobbies and that is also one of the issues that are important to me. All the starving children in Africa and Haiti hurts my heart.
