My name is Crystal Cook. I was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma in 1983. Being in a military family led me to be raised in several states across the country, including Virginia and Missouri, eventually leading to Texas. In elementary school I loved my teachers. They made learning fun and exciting. I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. As I got older, goals changed and I didn’t pursue that path. I had two wonderful children and felt very strongly that I wanted to be a full time stay at home parent. I focused my time on being as involved as possible in the lives of my own children. This led to hold several positions in the school PTA, lead a Girl Scout troop, teach a Sunday school class and also assist in several sports as Team Mom. The part I loved most about my volunteer experiences was having an impact on not only my children but lives of many others as well. I have always enjoyed working with children. Watching there eager minds soak up information like sponges is amazing to witness. There is nothing in the world like the happiness you feel when you know that you’ve impacted a little ones life for the better. Well, fast forward a few years. I recently became a single parent. My beautiful, kind and loving daughter Alisa is 11 years old and my handsome, smart and athletic son, Xavien is 8 years old. I have ben led to supporting my family and am blessed to have the opportunity to work in a field that I have a passion for. Now that our I work for Nueces County community action agency, I want to obtain my CDA and finally fulfill my dream to become a teacher.
