Race and ethnicity are interconnected but has separate concepts that are often used interchangeable. Race and ethnicity both goes hand in hand. One might say they even complement each other. They have many differences and some similarities. Ethnic identity refers to an identification with, and feeling part of a group based on shared beliefs and practices that can include (but is not limited to) values, language, culture, religion, cultures, religion etc. Race refers to the concept of dividing people into populations or groups on the basis of various sets of physical characteristics. Those physical characteristics normally comes from genes. Racial categories are said to be derived from early attempts by evolutionary scientist and anthropologists to develop a type of system to account for human diversity. Race presumes shared biological or genetic traits, whether definite or affirmed. Back in the early 19th century, it was said that racial differences were ascribed significance in areas of health, intelligence and personality but there is no evidence validating these statements. All in all, ethnic identity is often intricate. It can change dynamically through time as situations change. It can be created by our own self identities or others can define it for us whether we want them to or not. Our stereotypes of how we see groups different from what we are can have a strong effect on how we view and relate to associates of those groups. It also can have a weighty effect on how we see ourselves. Definitions of the two words ethnicity and "race" have immense political significance in America today. Those different ethnic groups that have a high public reflectiveness generally have political blow. Those that are primarily
