Essay On Biofeedback Stress
The increase of stress and anxiety in college students has been prevalent in most recent years. There are a variety of reasons for an increase in stress and anxiety for a college student such as academic pressure, experiencing college life, and financial concerns. People cope with stress in different ways, whether it be taking time out of the day to focus on oneself, exercising, or talking to someone, but rarely do college students have the time to cope with stress because of academic pressure and schoolwork. Luckily, I was able to participate in a biofeedback stress lab. The biofeedback stress lab is a portable, user-friendly device that uses an emWave program to help students learn to take control of their stress and anxiety. Throughout my participation in the lab, I was to see if the experience was, in fact, able to improve my heart rate coherence and decrease my stress levels.

As for the heart rate coherence, it is evident that I was able to improve it throughout all five sessions. I would be interested in continuing the biofeedback stress lab because I believe it would help me decrease stress levels immensely, especially during high times of stress, and improve my heart rate coherence. The fact that I took time out of my day to focus on this activity and to participate in the games was something I truly enjoyed. During my session, my only main focus was to improve my breathing and to achieve the end goals of the games; nothing like schoolwork, life concerns, and projects was on my mind. At the end of each session, I felt refreshed and composed to continue with my day. In fact, studies have shown that the biofeedback stress lab did include positive results such as positive attitudes, peacefulness, reduction in stress, anger, symptoms of anxiety, and even lower blood pressure.
