One would think that purchasing your first home would be a very fascinating experience; after all it is one of the most major purchases of your entire life. In America, home ownership ties in with the American Dream and the spirit of working hard to one day earn through hard work a home with a white picket fence. I am convinced that you know what the hero’s journey is, only don’t you know it by name. The Hero’s Journey or Monomyth is a formula or a structure presented by Joseph Campbell in his book called The Hero of a Thousand Faces (1949). In this book, Campbell describes twelve stages of a narrative, and comes up with a conclusion that in great and successful narratives, the characters are all the same. Therefore, these stages can be applied in (almost) every narrative, from cinema or literature.…

When I was in the eighth grade I went on a weeklong mission trip with my youth group to Houston, Texas. This trip was a turning point in my life spiritually and mentally, completely changing my thought process of inner city missions at the time. There is a ministry there called CSM that invites youth groups to come and they will take the group to certain places in the city where they can serve and get a feel for the need there and many places. This trip was very impacting for me and I am still looking back on it and realizing the benefits.…

James is always looking for adventure. As a 5 ft 5 in, 12-year-old boy, James thought he could handle anything. Living on the miniscule island of Takeshima, Japan, James could never go further than his 123,000 square foot island that was measured by himself. Every day, after his chores were done, James would fill his precious backpack with high-tech tools that were often used by professionals during the most perilous of adventures. Then he would walk out of his house and travel every square inch of the island to see that nothing had changed and that there were no secret passages to any new land. Every day James would face the disappointment of not having his own grand adventure. It was a sad life.…

Weather destruction hits hard some places more then others around the world. In Alpena where I live we rarely have any kind of major weather damage. On June 14, a group of 44 members from Grace Lutheran Church, as well as other churches in Alpena, drove 20 hours to Mayflower, Arkansas where a level 5 tornado had hit. I was one of these, along with my mom and one of my best friends Maddy. For six months we had prepared and fundraised. I did not want to go on this trip, but what I was going to see was much more than what I had imagined--i came back more grateful for the life I have and more aware of the problems that other people deal with.…

R Issue = There are several relational issues in this scenario. First Celeste and Laura really seem to think Jim the director has already made up his mind about hiring for the new position, and resent that he is asking them because they feel he’s already made up his mind. Second there is a difference of opinions between John, Keith, and Jim, and that of Celeste, Laura, and Karl. The difference of opinions has resulted in relational issues of taking sides within the team. “Relationship goals define how each party wants to be treated by the other and the amount of interdependence they desire (how they define themselves as a unit)” (Hocker, & Wilmot, 2014, p 77).…

While we were leaving Independence, we tried to get into a section that moving, but there was so many wagons and people that we didn't know where to go. We were stuck there for at least 4 hours just sitting in our wagons waiting to find a chance to go. Finally after it all died down a little bit, we got into a line and started to move. We were traveling towards the Kansas river and we thought it would be easy to pass but since there were so many people, it took forever. We had to pay 1 dollar for every wagon that crossed so we ended up paying around 6 dollars to cross. This was one of the longest river crosses I think I will ever encounter. It took around 6 hours and once we were all on the other side, we had to go to sleep and wait to continue until the sun rises. A week later we got to Alcove…
