English disposition -exam
Why did I choose this topic?
- Personal reasons
After the summer I am going to USA as an exchange student. I think it is very exciting to go to a country far away, because not only the Americans, but also people all over the world have a different culture and a different way of living.

Being an exchange student
- What does it mean?
Every year many students from all over the world choose to study abroad. In the United States and in several others countries, students choose to stay for a year or a semester. It is not a holiday, the student must go to school and study or else the student will be sent home.

During the stay the students will find out who they are, and what their limits are. They may change their views as well, and have new opinions about themself and their life. They will still be the same but with another understanding of where they come from and who they are becoming.

- The host family
Every exchange student is staying at a host family. The student is NOT a houseguest. The host family is in a way their new family, and they are the student’s new host- sister, brother, mother or father.

The host parents have the responsibility for their student. Like their own parents, they make certain that they are okay. They are worried like any other parents, if something happens.

They are the heart of the year. The student is going to be a part of their life, be a part of the community and a part in the culture. The host family is going to help them through the changes they will face.
But the family doesn’t take the student to their home because they have to. They want to have them there, and they are just as interested and want to know the student, as the student is interested in getting to know the host family and their way of living.

- Challenges
A big challenge is the language. If you are used to speak for example Danish your whole life, it is a challenge to speak a new language. I am going to USA so it will not be difficult for me,

Everyday there are students applying to colleges across the world, and some even choose close to their own homes. Parents love the thought of saving money even when it involves education, because everyone knows how expensive it can be. Although students will leave behind the common experience most students get to enjoy while living in a dorm during college like the activities, parties, and being able to be around your friends a large amount of the time. Living at home during your college years rather than staying in a dorm is very beneficial. It can give students a great amount of time to bond with their family, while living in a dorm gives students privacy. Students don’t have their family constantly calling their name to do something for them, or just intruding in on them. According to Kristen Graham, she states “ And you learn a lot about how to be an adult when your parents aren’t telling you how important it is to study and you find out for yourself” (12-23). Because of students living in a dorm without their parents it gives students more time to focus on studying, only most don’t take their time from what being away from home can give them into consideration, leaving them will a ton of homework to fulfill when the dead line arrives faster than expected. Being at home, parents are usually on top of their child’s back making sure they are being successful in school, asking questions constantly about their child’s homework and if they are passing their classes.…

Fortunately, living in a dorm can do just that. This will allow college students an advantage for their progressing social skills and abilities. As home offers several life lessons and gets students ready for the “real world,” life in the college dorm is actually the “real world” that starts the process of the values already learned at…

In the course Study Abroad: Learning Through Engagement, I was required to write a reentry report depicting how studying abroad changed me and my perspective on the world. In my report I made the claim that, “Studying abroad is an integral part of higher education.” According to Wayne C. Booth (et al) this claim, though vague, is a practical claim because it first addresses a problem, “caused by some condition in the world,” it contains an ‘undesirable consequence’, of that condition, and to avoid this problem, a call to action for my readers (53-54).…

I agree that collegiate student should spend a semester abroad. Although I think that students should be given the option to study abroad and not be required to, only because some will lack interest or not have the means to travel. Traveling to a foreign country and culture will give students great opportunities to experience other cultures and peoples. Seeing the other peoples and experiencing new laws and restrictions, seeing what adversities other countries face will make American students appreciate the freedoms that they have in America. Another benefit is the life experience that will come from spending a semester in a foreign country.…

Finally, the other obvious difference is that living far from home provides students more independence than living at home. It goes without saying that parents want to take good care of children by setting a wide range of rules for them. Consequently, students living with family have to ask for their parents’ permission if they want to go out or invite friends to their homes. Additionally, parents also control their time spent on using computer and TV. In contrast, students…
