EFT4 Task 5
The concept of area is one that is difficult for some. In order to introduce the concept of surface area of a cube, they must first understand the difference between 2D and 3D objects. I will have objects that they see in everyday real life. I will bring in both an inflated and a picture of a beach ball as well as a few other examples. For a cube I will bring in a small box that forms a cube and a cut out of a cube. I will start by showing them the difference between the cubes. I will label each side of the 3D cube to demonstrate that the cube has six sides. I will clarify that all sides of a cube are equal. I will demonstrate this by measuring the box to solidify this concept for the students.
In order to understand the concept of surface are, the students will need to have a few prerequisite skills. Those are;
1. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division skills.
2. How to use a ruler.
3. Difference between surface area and area of an object.
4. Know how to determine the width and length of and object.

For a student to understand the steps necessary to turn a 2D object into a 3D object, I will assist them. I will use a design called a net to demonstrate how to build a cube. I will start by taping the top portion of the cross to the two side portions of the net. I will then take the bottom portion of the cross and tape those portions to different sections of the other squares until the cube is made. I will explain the difference of the area and surface area. I will explain that area is the measurement of the surface of the shape and surface area is the outer area of a 3D object. They will watch as I turn a two dimensional cross into a three dimensional cube. I will demonstrate finding the area by measuring one of the six squares in the net by using the formula Length * Width (L*W), which is the formula for the area of the cube. I will count how many squares I have in the net, which is six. I will demonstrate that by multiplying

    Elasticity of Demand pertains to the relationship of price and need of a product. If a price increases will the demand increase or decrease? When a demand is elastic, it means even a small change in price can cause a large change in the quantities consumers purchase. (McConnell, pg. 77) So for example in an elastic demand if you reduce the price of a good the demand will increase a large amount and revenue then increases. When the is inelastic, according to McConnell it means when there is a price change it only causes a small change in the amounts consumer purchase. This can result in less total revenue.
