In “TV’s Negative Influence on Kids Reaffirmed” by Jeffery M. McCall, he claims that too much television is unhealthy for children. McCall states that children are more likely to be sexually active, violent, and socially impaired. The author claims that television not only negatively affects children, it also prevents children form doing productive activities such as doing homework, participating in sports, and reading. Even though all TV manufactures include v-chips in all televisions, McCall says that most families do not understand the system ratings that come with the v-chip. The author goes on to say that networks rate their own television programs and are not accurately labeling or rating their shows. McCall also argues that parents should…
Imagination does not always involve dealing with realistic feelings or reading books and having to understand ideas in an intellectual way. Imagination does not need to be taken seriously; intelligence, on the other hand, should be taken seriously. Giving a child a book will test his reading and literacy skills. Putting a child in front of a 20/20 broadcast will confuse him. Reading books are meant for learning, not to expand one’s imagination. Children are not supposed to believe that television and video games are bad for them when this addictive hobby only makes them happy. It is only an excessive amount of television entertainment that will truly damage a child’s intellect. Adults, however, understand both how to read and the difference between reality and fantasy worlds and the effects television has on their intelligence.…
The main purpose of the article “The Debilitating Effects of TV on Children” By Dr. John M Grohol, is that the more time children spend watching television, the more harmful it is. It is not only detrimental to a child’s education, but also socially and medically. Dr. Grohol believes that despite the negative effects television has on children, parents continue to allow children to watch way too much.…
These days just about every household owns a TV. There are many programs for children on the TV and we may think that it is harmless for a child to watch TV because they are “educational” or what not. True, some shows can teach your child some beneficial things such as learning to count or the alphabet, yet if a child is watching too much TV how can this impact the way children interact? And how much do you think is too much TV watching? Well according to the website (Kids Health from Neumors) they say : “The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids under 2 years old not watch any TV and that those older than 2 watch no more than 1 to 2 hours a day of quality programming.” We may think, well why this is when the kid is under 2 years of age how can it have an effect on them. Well the website (Kids Health from Neumors) they mention “The first 2 years of life are considered a critical time for brain development. TV and other electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing, and interacting with parents and others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development.” I personally have noticed that kids in this day and age play less outdoors and when I was a child I always wanted to go play outside and use my imagination to create my own adventures. Now I see many parents struggle to get their kids to go outside and play. I notice many kids are addicted to watching TV or even more so be stuck on playing video games. According to (CNN.com) “ when you consider that more time is spent in front of a television means less time spent on homework or having stimulating interactions with adults or other children. In addition, late-night TV watching tires kids out so that they can't pay attention in school. Also, television hands kids all the answers, promoting passive learning and short attention spans. As a result, kids have difficulty concentrating and working hard to solve a problem.”…
The main conclusion in this article is that TV really doesn’t make your life any better and to limit TV time with children and adolescents, or better yet, turn the TV off and go outside! The main assumptions underlying the author’s thinking is that TV causes health problems, lower grades, academic failure, negative attitudes towards school and teenage pregnancy.…
Television can have positive or negative effects on our children. Children learn by watching and imitating adults. Television provides many influences for children that may not be what you wish for your kids. Television has become a "member" of almost every single family on our planet. And not just an ordinary member, but a very important one, because the time spent next to it exceeds the amount of time spent together with any other family member. You do not have to apply any efforts to talk or listen to complaints while “communicating” with it. You do not have to play with your baby son after a hard working day. You can simply turn the TV on and everything is done: kids are quiet, your wife is not complaining and you feel absolutely happy. It is so simple that it has become an integral part of the culture of every family. It is the only time, when a person can forget about all the family troubles and the failures of the day. The sofa opposite the TV set has become the place of “relaxation and spiritual unity” of the family. With television programs—and even a cable channel—designed and marketed specifically for babies, whether kids under age 3 should be watching becomes an important question. Television, movies and other electronics entertainment are not appropriate for children under the age of, even if they seem mesmerized by it.”(Miller, 2013, p326).…
The main arguments that the author is making are:TV can be very detrimental to the mental development of children and teenagers. And that it should only be allowed in moderation. Not “whenever they want” and “as much as they want.” The main purpose of this article is: To show that Americans watch way too much TV and are raising their children in the same manner. Oblivious to its negative effects on their child 's development.…

The ability to be creative is an important factor in the development of a young child's mind. By sitting down and watching TV for a couple hours, the child is entertained, but is also not thinking. Information in spoon-fed to them, so when it comes time to read a book in school, some can have a hard time grasping ideas. They are so used to having images flash before them to provide understanding; they have trouble moving their eyes side to side to gather the information for themselves. With the TV in front of them, supplying amusement, they may never stop to think that putting a puzzle together, or reading a book could also be fun. They could actually become dependent on this one source of fantasy, and never bother to create their own. As the child grows older, it is less likely to put effort into playing with other kids, or taking up a hobby.…
Every child loves to spend countless hours in front of the TV watching cartoons, and various TV programs. What a lot of parents don’t realize is that although watching TV keeps a child occupied and quiet, long periods of TV watching can be harmful to the child in three major ways I would like to discuss.…
The media obviously has an evident impact on our lives and behaviours and especially the immature, impressionable and weak-minded people in our society which are mostly children. In a short span of time, most children can mimic a movie character, sing an advertising song, or show other impressions of what they saw in a particular advertising or TV show. It may include violent behaviour. Have you even wondered about the influence of media on children? Children only have to put a movie into a DVD player, open a magazine, or turn on the television to get involved in all kinds of negative experiences. It really is that easy.…

Since the first television sets appeared in homes, in mid-twentieth century, television has grown into a phenomenon found in almost every household.
