Edwin Locke Goal Setting
Goal setting has been a focus in the management and motivation world since Edwin Locke’s research on goal setting and motivation in the late 1960’s (CCN, 2016). Locke’s research has resulted in a template for goal setting called “SMART” (Mindtools, 2011). The goal of this paper is to further discuss the purpose of my leadership development plan utilizing peer-review articles, and credible websites that pertain to each of my SMART goals. I realize that I can be shy when having to communicate with others in large groups. I want to work on my communication skills, such as being more confident and assertive when working with other members of the team so that I will be a better team player and leader.

Specific: I will look for opportunities to join committees within my organization. I will research leadership skills/communication articles to be more assertive and confident when working with others. I will volunteer to be the spokesperson for our Unit Based Forum (UBF) at the next Structured Interdisciplinary Bedside Rounds (SIBR) Committee meeting.

Measurable: The co-chair of the UBF has asked for someone to share information on the progress with the SIBR committee at the upcoming SIBR meeting. I will be designated as the spokesperson for C6 by 1/28/16. And, I will speak to the committee on the designated meeting date.

Attainable: This is an attainable goal because all that is necessary is for me to speak with the co-chair of the UBF and volunteer to be the spokesperson. I will need to be accepted by the leader and prepare myself to be the spokesperson for the UBF at the SIBR
