Dumby Diary Entry Analysis
Dear Diary,

It’s not fair! It’s just not fair! What was Dumby’s fault? Why him? Why does god always have to punish the good? I understand that Dumby was wrong by breaking into the pub, but it’s not his fault. He was upset because he didn’t get the McRae medal for best on ground, and his stupid cousin took advantage of that. Couldn’t Big Mac see that it was Dumby? Dumby doesn’t deserve to die like this. He was good from the heart. He was the one who helped me the time when our team was playing against Tangaratta, and Mad Dog (a hopeless but strong player from their team) had me in a headlock, while bashing me like and idiot. No one helped me, I cried to the others for help so many times but they just stood there, frozen, scared and not wanting

The date was June 14, 2034. I was flying to London, England with my private jet. It was a beautiful day. The clouds were puffy and white, the sun was shining, and there was no wind. Then all of a sudden, there was a lot of turbulence. The plane was going crazy going left, then right, then back to the left. My pilot told me to not panic and that everything is going to be fine, but I was having cold feet. The turbulence became so wild, the pilot announced that the plane will have to land on the nearest ground.…

Many could not believe that the news of Lincoln’s assassination were real and thought it only as rumours. Others thought that “the whole story may be a Yankee lie.” In Towne’s diary, it is mentioned that, “the black minister of Frogmore said that if they knew the President were dead they would mourn for him, but they could not think that was the truth, and they would wait and see.”…

I awoke today with the light streaming into my room and hearing the birds chirping in the distance. As I regained my conscience, I smelled the mold and felt damp room conditions all around me that imprisoned me. It reminded me of what would have happened only in a nightmare. It was only yesterday that Corey, Nurse, Hale and I had gone to help the accused women. So many times I felt that I could win the battle, yet just as many times I could feel the rope slipping through my fingers.…

So, I have escaped. I honestly don’t have anything to journal about. Everything is over, and I just arrived at the airport. I am waiting to be picked up at the airport. One really weird thing happened though. When I was on my phone, my good friend Wilmer Hampton, texted me that he would show something to me when I got home. I was beside myself with curiosity and excitement, so I patiently, well, maybe not so patiently, waiting for the taxi to come to pick me up to go to my house. I am trying to speculate what it is. Is it a “you survived South Korea” present. Is it a funny meme that I didn’t get at South Korea? I can’t figure it out, the suspense is killing me.…

We were all caught up in the delirium of that stupid dance and no one knew what they were doing, it was a stupid and terrible mistake. However, I think that you are just as much to blame for what happened that night as I am or any one else is, you took part in that dance just like the rest of us. It wasn’t murder because it was not intentional, I had good intentions as did the rest of the boys I’m sure. Is it fair to still blame only me? I behaved in ways that I wish I had not, but in my defense I was not myself on the island. Something came over me, I was not used to living without meat, without anything. What did I know anyway? I was only thirteen and people do stupid…

Back when I was an eighth grader, I was faced with two choices of high schools that I could’ve gone to, Trimble Tech and Paschal high school. But Trimble tech was my first choice and so I picked to go to Trimble Tech high school. There was one thing that I learned when I got to the school that reading was a requirement and students must have a certain amount of accelerated reader (AR) points for every six weeks. I was immediately pissed off that we had to read because true to all honesty nobody likes to read. Knowing that, I thought of changing schools and instead going to paschal, but it was already too late and there was no way my dad would deal with the trouble switching schools. Getting AR points was a pain, I didn’t like to read but I had to since AR was 10 percent of our total grade, I wanted A’s and B’s, but it would be really difficult to get B’s in the more challenging classes. The first six weeks went by and my grades were horrible, I had B’s and C’s and that meant that I didn’t have an A/B honor roll like I always had. My parents were disappointed with me because they wanted me to have all A’s not B’s and C’s. One thing I really didn’t like doing was getting my parents disappointed in me because I was raised with the fact that education leads to success and I wasn’t going to let my A student siblings beat me, I wanted to make my parents proud just like the other ones have. Reading was the key to all my problems and I’m just going to have to get used to it. So I started reading the cirque du freak series by Darren Shan. At first I absolutely hated reading, but after finishing the first book I couldn’t get enough, and I started reading way more than I had to, I’d read in everywhere and every minute of free time I had. Now thinking back, I couldn’t be happier that I stuck with tech instead of paschal because it taught me how fun books can be. Now I love to read and even though reading not as big of a requirement as it once was I still read…

Today, Antonio and Bassanio borrowed money from me, three thousand ducats. The merchant Antonio is so certain that his ships will come back. It’s like nothing will come on his ships way, ships are just boards and sailors are just men. Anything could come on his ships way like thieves, storms, winds and rocks. After a long debate with myself I decided that I’ll lend them money. The merchant, Antonio and I decided to make a bond just for fun. He thinks proud and high that I will not charge interest, how proud he is. The bond state, I can take pound of flesh from any part of his body. Also the bond was sealed today with his blood. It is like father Abraham laid mercy on me by giving this chance, a chance to make revenge on Christians and Antonio. Oh, the name Antonio angers me , he the one who called me a dog, spat on me in the Rialto and called me unbeliever and his reasons is that I am Jew. When the day comes in three months from now and he can’t pay the three thousand ducats. I will say to him look to your bond!!! I will not give mercy for him. In the other hand maybe if I do lay mercy on him and , if all ships does not come back in three months and thus Bassanio won Portia’s hand in marriage , I can get the money that they owe thrice as much. Also, if neither that happens I can make them my slaves for life because I’m see as a fiend or a devil. He hates me because I am Jew and I lend money with interest. What I his problem with us Jew, we are human like them. In an instance if you poison a Jew and a Christian both of them will die. What else then he expect me to do if I don’t lend money; Jews are only entitled as professional bankers. We can’t own land, we could not seek for any other jobs and we are mistreated and their reason is that we are a Jew. Is it because we can’t accept their god and entitle him like another prophet or is it because a Jew killed Jesus who is also a Jew? O father Abraham helped me have peace…
