Drug Crime Control Initiative
Develop an initiative to reduce the use and sale of drugs within a community that might be proposed to a police chief as a cost effective and practical solution. Summarize, if any, the involvement of each major component in the criminal justice system in this initiative. Write a paper outlining your initiative. Use external resources to support your ideas.

Law enforcement agencies take a critical part in prevention strategies as well as community-based prevention groups. Most communities have begun to employ people of the community and start collaborations with police, prosecutors, judges, probation officers, and correction officials as well as their counterparts.
Law enforcement should allow the military to get involve. With the training most military combative units get; they can help produce prevention nationwide and involve military bases to push drugs out of nearby cities. The law enforcement agencies should have weekly briefs with the active unit(s) commanding officers to see the progression of the units, the areas swept through as well as culprits apprehended during each mission.
Today’s communities and police have an organization called the PACT360 (Police and Communities Together.) With the prevention strategy involving the military; it can be changed to MPACT360 (Military, Police and Communities Together.) These organizations can be funded by the percentage of taxes taken from lottery games, confiscated drug money, annual funding primarily to preventing drug-related criminal activity.
This organization can also work with security contracting agencies to allow a more variety or preventing drug-related activity and tactics. With the joint force of the military, communities, police agencies as well as security contracting agencies; these organizations will reach out to parents, schools and mentoring programs to educate them on how to help the organizations, support them, and the risk as well as the consequences of drug sales/drug use.

As a patrol officer the first way I would address the increase in what might be the beginning of gang activity in any community would be to utilize service style policing. I would empower the community to help deal with this problem by seeking out “social services and other agencies to provide counseling for minor offenders and to assist community groups in preventing crimes and solving problems” (Schmalleger, 2054). This style in some way helps offenders and the community to become better. Next, I would utilize the watchman style of policing. I like this style only if the intervention is within the limits of the law. Police should not be seen as bullies but crime preventers or role models. Finally I would use legalistic style of policing.…

There is also a need in the manner in which law enforcement manages drugs and drug enforcement. This can be handled by making drugs a public health problem instead of a criminal one (Lozoff, n.d.). This can shift a majority of the drug problem onto other services and by decriminalizing drug use and possession individuals can get treatment instead of being locked up for a mental health and addiction problem. This would alleviate overbooked court rooms and prisons allowing for the truly violent and dangerous criminals to be placed in space that is taken up by less violent offenders (Lozoff, n.d.). In changing the way the system manages drugs and drug addicts the crimes associated with drug use can also be decreased or eliminated (Chandler, Fletcher, & Volkow,…

Law enforcement has been able to provide protection and discipline in their communities. Policing agencies have particular characteristics which are highly important for the community. First, routine patrol, patrolling the streets of their community provides protection and unity for the citizens. Second, rapid response for service, this allows the community to feel confident about calling the local law enforcement agency and knowing they will arrive with a sense of urgency. Third, arrests, the community has to feel safe within their streets and law enforcement must put away the men and women involved in criminal activities and criminal acts. Fourth, investigations, police agencies cannot make any arrests until they provide a thorough investigation for the individual’s crime. Finally, law enforcement sharing information, once a person is investigated and arrested it becomes public record. Putting a person’s record out in public allows the community to know who their neighbors are and who can and cannot be trusted. Policing agencies must follow certain procedures in order to properly protect and serve their community.
