Watchman Style Policing Case Study

As a patrol officer the first way I would address the increase in what might be the beginning of gang activity in any community would be to utilize service style policing. I would empower the community to help deal with this problem by seeking out “social services and other agencies to provide counseling for minor offenders and to assist community groups in preventing crimes and solving problems” (Schmalleger, 2054). This style in some way helps offenders and the community to become better. Next, I would utilize the watchman style of policing. I like this style only if the intervention is within the limits of the law. Police should not be seen as bullies but crime preventers or role models. Finally I would use legalistic style of policing.
