Doritos: The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl commercial I watched was about Doritos.
A guy and a girl went to get an altrasound. When they were there the guy had Doritos and he was moving it in his hand while he was talking. They realized that the baby wanted the chip so the guy was moving it around wherever and the baby was following it. They were persuading us to buy Doritos. They did this by getting our attention by using something unusual and something you wouldn't normally see on t.v. It was very unique. They must have been successful because it caught a lot of peoples attention and it was a funny

    (1) Ever since the cartoon commercial advertisement for the Tootsie Pop aired in 1970, fans have been trying to answer the famous question posed in the Advertisement: “How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?” This commercial is one that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of audiences, however, it seems to be particularly memorable for children. It is animated, extremely colorful, and seems to follow a short plot similar to that of a children’s story. So how, exactly, was this company able to build up such a huge fan base using one cleverly thought out advertisement? This commercial might seem quite simple, however, it’s with many persuasive tactics. For example, the question “How many licks does it take…

Taco Bell uses humor as one of their many techniques to draw in the audience to the commercial. Humor is a good technique that most commercials use because it tends to make people happy and more interested. Taco bell did exactly this. After the old man sneaked out of the nursing home the commercial takes us to one of its first scenes. This scene shows the senior citizens stripping down, jumping into a pool, while laughing and having a good time. This scene is very humorous because how often do we see the people that we know as “Grandma and Grandpa” stripping down into their underwear for a late night swim.…

Every time I watch the Superbowl, I find myself (under the interrogative look of my friends) bitching about the effectiveness of “xyz” commercial that somehow succeeded in producing laughter among the audience. Then I start explaining that too often the joke becomes bigger than the brand and when it does, chances are you will most likely remember the punch line than the advertiser. If you just invested $2.6 million for a 30 sec. and everybody misses the point, it’s a huge waste of money.…

Most of the super bowl commercials skate a thin line between been appropriate and inappropriate and this one can be classified under the inappropriate ones. It can also be classified as a controversial commercial. These companies spend millions of dollars in the production and marketing of their commercials to networks during the super bowl weekend. Snickers use designs to display that you are not you when you are hungry. That you personify a different personality and that snickers are sufficient. The Super Bowl is an American tradition full of cuisine, laughter, and competition. Millions of people have social gatherings to enjoy the game. However, sometimes the Super Bowl is not the main event. For years, Super Bowl commercials have been distinguished for their creativity, delivering laughter, sorrow, and at times a call to action for their audience. “Best Buds,” a Super Bowl commercial from 2014, was a light-hearted moment where the public was presented with the friendship of a dog and a horse intertwined with a beer corporation. On the other hand, Super Bowl commercials have been criticized often for their lack of meaning in today’s society; Bruce Horovitz’s article “Why Super Bowl ads don’t matter anymore” went so far as to say that…

I personally don't watch much television and whenever i visit YouTube and an ad pops up I am quick to skip it. The last campaign that I latched onto was the Old Spice campaign. It's great use of imagery and comedy made it unforgettable and was something that stuck with you once you went to a store to purchase body wash or men's fragrances. I learned that using comedy to advertise something is a strong method to win over customers. It's even more astounding that in my opinion the target audience is 18-25 year old males that are usually trying to impress the opposite sex and that they seemingly reached out to this intended audience. While it's unclear whether or not sales primarily come from this demographic, I am most certain that interest among this age range exists and from a personal stand point can say I have purchased Old Spice products do in part to these…

Prior to the rebranding effort, some of the key assets of Doritos is its iconic triangle and its flavor. Tasked with creating a breakthrough look and feel to activate the Doritos brand narrative in a highly consumer-relevant way, Hornall Anderson’s UK team visited many different cities across the world to see how Doritos was shopped and to discover how to best achieve an emotional connection with its core demographic of teens and young adults. The team immersed itself in the demographics’ visual world, analyzing key graphic trends in gaming, sport, grooming, fashion and music, among others. As all findings were distilled, the team translated the consumer insight into a design system and voice that could bring Doritos to life on a global…

Those swaying advertisement techniques are the main key into a child’s mind, frequently telling them to buy this product. In the modern society, there are tons of celebrities that are amazing people in front of some children's eyes, giving a chance for advertisers to swoop in and brainwash them. According to the NBC News article, “If star athletes sell junk food -- is your kid more likely to eat it?”, it states that Peyton Manning has earned about $12 million dollars just to advertise companies, like Papa John’s. Kids look up to these celebrities, they are willing to buy whatever the star says is vigorous. These advertisements are mostly connected with topics that children are mostly familiar with, which makes a successful way to advertise their product.…

Advertising executives are under a lot of pressure to make their campaigns successful. At some point, it occurred to some ad people that they could make ads so irresistible that they would actually be passed around willingly by customers. The result: self-propagating advertising. Guerrilla marketing sometimes takes the form of a viral campaign. The viral campaign happens organically and spontaneously; if it’s pushed too hard by its creators there’s a pretty good chance it’ll never get off the ground.…

The target consumers for Doritos are males and females between the ages of 16-24 years old. Consumers this age are able to afford Doritos themselves and fall in the Millennials generation segment. Millennials spend money on wants rather than needs for the majority of the time. Dorito’s consumers have active and busy lifestyles. Dorito’s isn’t targeted towards a specific gender and appeals to both males and females. As I said the main target age group would be between 16-24 but I believe children younger than 16 are also targeted by Doritos. Dorito’s isn’t targeted to a specific ethnic group or race. The company has a large target market and makes it product appealing and available to many different types of people. The experiencers and strivers within the psychographic segmentation fall into Dorito’s target market. The experiencers are young, enthusiastic, impulsive, and social while the strivers are trendy, fun loving, and peers important.…
