Re-evolution!

“Digit is another step on the path of evolution that we have embarked upon”

nother day…another bit of news. Some things change, others stay the same… We began three years ago with dreams of catalysing an interest in computing in India. In January 2001, we took on the even more daunting task of spearheading the digital technology revolution in this country. Driving towards addressing a new computing environment required a redefinition of our focus, a redesigned content package, while continuing our dedication towards the needs of our readers. Digit is another step on the path of evolution that we have embarked upon. A name that best reflects the confluence of people and technology that our magazine will be about. A magazine that will be dedicated to achieving the high standards that we will continue to set for ourselves. We embrace this significant change with a great sense of enthusiasm and confidence, and we hope that you will continue to support us with the same passion that you’ve shown over the last few years. Digit will continue to strive to live up to your expectations—with the same focus on quality of content and design that you have come to expect from India’s premier technology magazine. Karan Manral

    3. The impact of the evolution of computer hardware and the accompanying evolution of operating system software is as follow: As experience with a combination of hardware and software matures; users and engineers gain new visions of what they would like to do next. New hardware is usually paralleled by operating system and system software development. The fielding of new systems results in user and operator feedback that leads to operating system and system software improvement. Innovative users try equipment and software for applications not envisioned by the hardware and software vendors. Successes lead to additional sales and use, which leads to further supporting software development. If there is perceived economic benefit, the hardware vendor will seek ways to adapt to the new needs without necessarily sacrificing basic capabilities. Often this consists of creating a more efficient interface.…

Technology has paved the way to a new and exciting life. Since technology has become such a major part of our modern day lives, there is much speculation on how fast we are actually accruing new technologies. According to Moore 's Law, we double our technology every two years. This number has actually been updated to 18 months recently, and we can only expect that new to become smaller and smaller. (Greene, para. 1-6, 2011) In other words, we are learning more than ever! Out with the old, and in with the new. In many cases, technology moving forward makes for 'smaller ' phones and computers, features go up, and our technological tools in the world become more involved. This is especially true in the world of business. Technology helps businesses to better reach their customers, organize records, and to establish an online presence. (Swanson, para. 5-11, 2012)…

HP created a remarkable new technology, but its targeted market never blossomed. Just at the end of the case as the clock was running out on the Kittyhawk team, Nintendo approached HP with its Nintendo 64 system with a slot for a 1.3” disk drive, and projections that it would sell several million units per day during the upcoming Christmas season. The problem was that they needed the drive for $49.95, and HP had designed the Kittyhawk for a different market at a cost of $250 per unit. The 1.3 drive was a potentially disruptive technology which could have been designed to a $49.95 price point, but HP had positioned it as a sustaining technology, as nearly as possible.…

In this day and age it is not as easy to just walk into a store and buy an item and go home. Just imagine, after months of children begging and pleading you have given into them, walking into to the store and head for the electronics section. The consoles have varying prices and tags that list all kinds of specifications that might as well be in Greek. “Which one to pick?” one asks themself. While the PlayStation 3 has more advanced technology, the Xbox 360 is a better gaming console.…
