English Descriptive Essay: First day of school
12 September, 2013

My first day of school started out like any other day. It was dull, slow, and early in the morning. I wake up to a mixture of both my alarm ringing louder than band horns and my mother yelling at me to get up. The first thing I do is put some music on. While I jam to the speaker playing, Im pulling out clothes and making outfits to wear. After about fifteen minutes I finally find one. I put my clothes on and as usually I fool around either picking a song or on my phone sending daily early morning text messages or making early morning phone calls. Its 7:03 and I have to be out the door, so I run downstairs and grab the best pop tarts ever; Cinnamon and Brown Sugar, now I am finally out the door and walking to the end of my street waiting on my bus. It is about 7:06 and I finally see the bus coming down the hill. It rolls up in front of me and as the door opens I already smell the mugginess of the bus. I take a seat in the front of the bus so I can get off when we get to school. The bus starts to pull off and I finally realize that my senior year of high school has started. The bus pulls up to school and I hop off the bus. I brush my pant legs off and check myself before I enter the building. I say to myself, “You look nice Malik”. I smirk a bit and then go into the double set of doors. I see old faces and some new faces. I go straight to my homeroom and immediately I am directed to the auditorium. I have never been to the auditorium so I get lost quick. But soon I am told and directed into the right direction. I find some friends I know and sit by them. I sit for fifteen minutes and am told that all seniors are supposed to be outside for a senior meeting. So I quickly get outside to find out what this meeting is about. After the meeting is over, all the students are told to return to their homerooms. I enter my homeroom and quickly look for a seat. I look around and notice I have a variety of people in my homeroom. I see some people who I kind of know and some I didn’t even know existed. I am sitting in one of the seats and notice that their assigned according to alphabetical order. So I look for my seat, I find it and then sit down. I receive a bunch of papers and look through them, none of which interest me or concern me at this moment, so I shove them in my book bag until told otherwise. As I sit quietly in my seat, the teacher introduces herself and starts making some announcements. I am zoned out due to my music and being on my phone. Suddenly she taps me and tell me to unplug myself and listen to what she says. I apologize for having my music on and being on my phone and then she continues to make her announcements. As of now I have been sitting there for about 5 minutes. I am wondering when the first period bell is going to ring. Soon I see people lining up by the door and the bell rings and students proceed to exit the classroom. I realize that school has officially started and that this year will be both long and stressful at times but can also be a year to remember.

I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

The end of the day bell rings as I grab my notebooks and rush out of class. The hallways are loud as I hear lockers slamming shut. I jog towards my old red locker that was across the hall from the 10th grade math room. I twist the combination in, 8-23-2. I hear a click as I swing open the rusty door and shove my notebooks into my denim backpack. I close my locker after grabbing my bag; running towards the exit, trying to race my sister to her car.…
