Names come in many flavors, variety, and sizes. For most, a “name” like mine, Rosa Elena Bernardo, it means more than a simplistic cold identity derived for numerical organization and recognizing an individual. Otherwise names would be numerical instead of Alphabetical. Names all have a deep rooted cultural, and even sometimes spiritual relation towards one’s identity and oddly enough, it has a significant impact on a person’s perception of life that correlates with many of the name’s meaning and popularity. Like most name, they all have an origin, my name comes from the Latin word for “Rose”, which is a beautiful, yet strong flower that is entrenched into the hearts of the human race since the they first greeted each other. Rosa Elena, Rosa which is Latin for Rose, and Elena which is Greek for Shining light fits perfect with myself. (Behind the Name) For a Rose to sprout from the darkness of the earth its needs a shining light to help it find its way out. That’s how I view the world. I have to fight through the layers of darkness from this salted earth, to reach a glimpse of light to sprout to form a beautiful, yet powerful flower that blooms, and lures admiration and respect from all bystanders. In a normal everyday scenario, just by looking at my appearance “shining light” would not be the first thing to come to mind. I love to dress in dark and muted colors, which can give the impression of being bitter, lonely or even depressed. However, that’s not even close to the truth.
