Day in a Life
A Day in the Life It’s great that Rachel reports to work early wanting to get a head start on her day. It shows a lot of initiatives and hard work as a manager. Rachel spent a fair amount of time speaking with a few of her colleagues but by the end of the day she managed to get plenty of work done. She took the time to help Victoria get caught up on her project. She not only checked but also responded to her emails and voicemails. She visited with her project team members and made some adjustments that was requested by them. She was responsible for their performance as well. Her boss approached her and told her some of the problems that was happening with the project. At the end of the day she sorted everything out and communicated with her team. So, I do believe she spent her time effectively that day.
By getting a one day glimpse of Rachel’s professional life I can already tell it’s filled with non-repetitive work and excitement. Non-repetitive work is great because it makes the job not so boring. I can only imagine the challenges that she must face on a daily basis but handled everything quite well. She was constantly communicating with others by emails and phone. It goes to show that project manager would need to have great communication skills. There were always something to get done or an issue that needs to be solved—decision making skills goes into play. The case study also showed that Rachel did interact with mixtures of people from other departments. Meaning one of project manager’s important quality is to have to get along with a diverse group of people. She does have a lot of on her plate and I’m sure some days can be overwhelming. It probably explains why she gets to work before any of her project team members does.

    | 1. I think Rachel did a great job as project manager and she managed her day very well. She arrived early to work to get an early start to the day. Even though she is clearly busy early in the day she makes enough time for her boss to discuss progress with the project. She is also a good team player because she helped Victoria get back on track perhaps by letting Victoria work with their personnel a little longer. Although it took her a while to get to it, she replied to all her emails and phone calls. She also stayed late to go over a few more things and go talk to her boss to fill him in with the days activities and progress. 2. The one thing it tells me for sure is that being project manager is a very hectic job. It clearly takes all that a person has to do such a difficult and fast paced job. Coming in to work early and staying at work much later than everyone else is the minimum a person can do. The project manger has many responsibilities that the rest of team doesn't, all the personnel have to do is get their task for the day and complete it, but the project manager not only has to assign these individual tasks but also manage the progress and deal with any unforeseen obstacles that may arise. The project manager has to keep everything on track and running smoothly, and Rachel has been doing a good job of it.…
