Leadership Analysis: BRADD Agency On Aging
The human service agency I decided to pick for my leadership analysis is where I did my internship at for my undergrad degree which is the BRADD agency. BRADD stands for the barren river area development district. I chose this agency because I couldn’t pick my agency I am at currently at since I am interning at Lafayette High School. I couldn’t do a proper analysis over my internship at the high school because there is only one social worker for the school. There are over 10 employees that work there but it doesn’t give me a chance to really talk about her leadership role and how she performs since she works independently. I used to work for BRADD so I know a lot about the agency so I feel it should be a great agency to do my leadership analysis …show more content…
The area I worked in was the aging department, which has its own roles and duties they provide to the community. The Area Agency on Aging are a part of a National Network on Aging under the direction of the U.S. Administration on Aging and under the supervision of the Kentucky Department for Aging & Independent Living. An Area Agency on Aging objectives are that they hold the responsibility of implementing the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, and charged with the responsibility of identifying the needs of the elderly, addressing those needs as well as serving as an advocate on behalf of all Older Americans at the local level. The Area Agency on Aging &Independent Living is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering an Area Plan on Aging. The are Plan is comprehensive delivery system of services in the Barren River ten-county area. In the Area Agency they provide adult day care services, adult protection services, assistance with food and clothing, help with assisted living facilities, services for the senior center, financial assistance, home care equipment and products, home health agencies, …show more content…
As far as the workers go there isn’t much diversity in the agency. BRADD gives services to a numerous amount of cultures, so a translator usually goes on the home visits with the case manager to help communicate. Confidentiality can be an issue since another person will be involved but all is explained to the client ahead of time.
The leadership within the organization is supportive. My previous supervisor offered support and help for all the case managers while attempting to reduce stress and frustration. She would take cases that required more attention that the other case managers couldn’t deal with.
The leadership challenges were that there was so much going on with each case manager she found herself overwhelmed at times trying to be supportive to each case manager. With so many case managers and clients it became difficult to help everyone who needed assistance.
The role of women in leadership within this agency was amazing because the staff consisted of majority women as well as my supervisor so it was a great example of what it looked like when women have lead positions in an

Leadership and control are the two final elements in the management process. Effective managers lead their team members by taking control of the project and determining the path that must be followed to ensure the success of the project. Managers must possess strong leadership skills. A strong leader leads by example, motivates and encourages team members to put forth their best effort. This can be achieved through open communication and mutual respect for one another. Health care managers can spend a significant amount of time communicating, decision making, problem solving, employee development, and collaborating with other departments/organizations (PubMed, 1999).…

    2. I think that out of five key elements of an effective real leader, Kathy showed her motivation and self-awareness. In her previous projects Kathy has shown that she is a talented project manager and the Asian project was a chance to demonstrate her true potential in front of upper level managers. Throughout the project Kathy showed that she is really motivated to succeed and wanted the project to be successful. In the first paragraph of the case study it is written that she is well organized. As for me, being organized is close to being self aware of you’re your own weaknesses and strengths. Overall, Kathy is a good project manager, but due to lack of social skills and empathy she couldn’t succeed and get approval from top managers of the…

During the summer before my senior year of high school, I was involved in one of the most influential opportunities I had ever encountered. I was given the chance to volunteer my time at Schneck Medical Center. I chose to volunteer in the rehabilitation department; this helped fuel my desire to want to become a physical therapist. While at the rehabilitation center, I got involved in multiple positions that taught me how to be a better leader and how to successfully use teamwork. Working in the office taught me leadership roles. While in the office, I had to check the patients in for their appointments and paged therapists for their appointments. This position showed me how to take charge and make sure that things in the rehabilitation center…
