Cultural Observation Essay
Based on my observation, one of the common non-verbal ‘things’ done in my community or culture is we greet each other with Salam. Salam is something like shake hand but in more polite way by using both hands. The next thing I noticed is that every time people do Salam their right hand will go to their chest, including me, based on my knowledge it is to indicate that we greet each other sincerely. In another word, based from what I read it is to show that we greet each other from the heart. Another way practiced by my culture is, if we shake hand with older people we should greet them with Salam and follow up with touching our nose tip to the back of their hand.

They will avoid using the index finger. In my view, it is depend on situation, if the index finger is used to point to people who is standing right in front of us or not far from us it could be consider as rude because I don't think people would favour if someone pointing straight to his or her face. If you pointing to people that is far from you, for me it is fine because sometimes it is hard for people to guess where we actually pointing to using our short thumbs. It is not really encouraged for you to do so but it can be forgiven.

Another one is maintaining eye contact. In my community, we are encouraged to make eye contact because we believe that it shows could help us to see whether the person is interested or not in talking to us. It might also be interpreted as the person is not being honest in saying something to us.
However sometimes, using too much eye contact when talking will be avoided in my culture especially when a younger person talking to the older person.

It is good from my point of view because from an empirical point of view, it is believes by people that eyes are a window to the soul. By looking into each other eyes while interacting it could help us to see what is the meaning behind what a person says and it can shows whether the person is engaging with what we are talking or
