Credibility And Persuasions Influence Attitudes

I liked learning about how attitudes are measured in chapter six. Especially how they influence our behavior in daily interactions and choices. Learning about a person's attitudes is not only interesting but essential when trying to convey/relay a message to either persuade or influence them. Understanding how credibility can influence attitudes is important when conducting presentations to promoting a product. I plan on using the persuasion techniques and information on attitudes in many of my future public speaking engagements which are aimed at addressing youth in the community. Knowing about certain routes of persuasion will help me to better influence others to either adopt my views but actually take the time to understand them. For example, looking the part of an expert in the field of psychology will enhance my credibility more so with teens rather than what I say.
I plan on using this to be adequately prepared with concise knowledgeable information when attending a conference such the national institute of leadership and success on issues affecting the Dayton community for fall. In this context, I would approach a public speaking event knowing that I would have to build and maintain credibility while introducing information to the audience. I would focus on the central route of persuasion of elaborating on important points that will be used for discussion. This would be the complete opposite if I wanted to persuade kids about the importance of Firefighting. In this interaction, I plan wearing firefighter gear. The kids will be enamored/influenced with how I look so the information I give will not have to be as detailed since I am relying on things other than my actual speech to convey the message I want to get across.
