My division was stationed in Normandy, France, at the time of the Allied invasion on June 6, 1944. Toward the end of August or early September, Canadian troops captured me near Dieppe.10 I was with a small group of men who were cut off from our main company and overrun by motorized Allied units. For several days we wandered around searching for our unit, until one night we strayed into a field camp of Canadian soldiers. You can well imagine the astonishment all around when we suddenly appeared in their midst. The Canadians didn’t have a guard posted. This was probably better for all because otherwise we might have exchanged gunfire. Instead, we peacefully turned over our weapons and in return received cigarettes.…

I end off on an erotic pole twirl and walk off the scintillating stage to the dressing room. As I enter the room containing the killed hopes of women, Bill says “Good performance but could you put more of yourself into it”. Bill’s comment seemed to go straight through me since my mind was occupied on the strange man. I make my way to the mirror to remove the mask which hides my true self. As I begin to wipe away the red lipstick I begin to see the broken girl within but ignore her cry for help. Rapidly I begin to pack my things and make my way to the bus stop. As I sit on the icy, cement bench a muscular figure begins to walk up, my extinct tells me to walk away but my heart tells me to remain. As the figure gets closer I realise it’s the strange man, His husky voice stating “This is a gift from Rico, he wants payment on…

The entire Yelnats family struggled and suffered heavily, supposedly, due to a curse put on them by a one-legged gypsy, Madame Zeroni. An old, Egyptian woman, Madame Zeroni reluctantly provided Stanley’s great-great grandfather, Elya Yelnats, with a piglet, to get the love of his life, Myra Menke. As her father was already in talks with Igor Barkov, who offered an enormous pig, he demanded something similar. Thus, Madame Zeroni told Elya to carry the piglet up the mountain where water ran uphill, make him drink that water and sing to it, every day. While it would grow, he would get stronger and tougher too. She, however, had strictly warned him to come back for her, to carry her up the mountain, let her drink from the same water and sing to her, otherwise, “He and all his descendants would be cursed for eternity.” Being a fifteen-year old, Elya did not take this very seriously and forgot about the assurance he had given Madame…
