Creative Writing: A Letter To Alcove Springs
We are leaving Alcove Springs we are following the Platte River all the way to Fort Kearny which is 11 days on the trail and 319 miles. I think the walking is going to be very difficult for all of us. We were on the trail and our tongue on our wagon broke. I think that it broke when the ox were pulling our wagon and it connect to the ox it wasn’t strong in the first place so I think that putting more pressure on it made it break, it took us 2 days to repair. Grey clouds are starting to form in the sky the wind starts to blow really fast. It starts to hail and rain. I think there is going to be a really big storm. Fred tells everyone to stop and get under their wagon. Billy and Rae are really scared I’m am trying to comfort them but I am also very scared. …show more content…
Rae got a broken arm and Billy got a couple cuts and bruises. All of our stuff inside the wagon was okay but our wagon itself is really bad, two of our wheels fell off and our canvas has a ton of holes thank goodness we brought our sewing kid. It took us 5 days to get everyone wagon picked up and fixed. We now in Fort Kearny, I wrote a letter to my mom and Caroline to tell them everyone is alright and that we are doing good. I hope it gets to them very soon and they write back soon. We had to get 2 tires replaced because of the storm, we picked them up and put them back on but they were really bad so we had to get them a replaced, we also got a spare which was 5 dollars, because who knows what will happen and we might need it. We will stay here for 2 days, we had to organize the wagon because we just threw stuff in there after the storm. Rae had to get a sling and a cast when we got

The saga of old Geo. Ochenski continues. As Geo. sat on his rock, watching the Cadillac, getting smaller and smaller, until it was just a dot on the horizon before it disappeared over the hilltop. He sat there for some time, with his head in his hands. Contemplating, about what the elderly gentleman had said. As wheels of the mind began to turn the gears of thought, 'old Geo could almost hear them groan' from lack of usage. Suddenly the old 25 watt incandescent light bulb, lite up. Somewhere in the dark shadowy corners of his mind, stirred an almost unheard of phenomenal, reasoning was taking place. In panic Geo almost shelved it in disbelief. Slowly, oh so very slowly it came to the front of his mind. But, in the dim light of the 25 watt bulb, Geo was unable to understand it. Geo shook his head, in an effort to clear it. But, as with most things, Geo tried to do, it ended in failure. In shaking his head, Geo had accidentally turned on, the other 25 watt bulb on the right side of his brain, which he almost never used. As the light became brighter, Geo was slowly able to make out the printing in bold red, black and blue crayon, the words on the jello (sic) paper he was holding. It said, in bold…

“We have a long way to go Julie. We have to push ourselves to reach the site before dark.” While true that I worried about our reaching the site ahead of the dark, my real fear was the pain from the loaded backpack. Ten minutes ago I considered it just a temporary irritation, but now it had grown into a real strain on my back and shoulders, and it was an exertion to walk, even on level ground. Rather than yielding to defeat, I felt it best to travel another mile of two and possibly sedate the pain through a softer hiking stride. Not until I had exhausted every possible option, which included a dose of extra-strength ibuprofen, did I not want to surrender to my pain, or speak to Julie about my problems. Since she was ten, we've completed about 40-day hikes in the Smokies, totaling almost 300 miles, and most of that mileage, if not all, were tougher than any we would encounter on Lakeshore Trail.…

I had the opportunity to use a fancy studio in the Lower East Side gratis recently. It happened to occur in a time when I needed to make music more than at pretty much any other point in my life. I am truly blessed with some excellent friends. It was a harrowing time. It is without question the most emotionally honest thing I have ever been involved in making. Here's the first single.…

A sharp wail cut through the silence of Woodbridge Mental Hospital. A nurse immediately rushed towards the far end of the hallway, her footsteps echoing off the walls of the hospital. As she approached the door of the patient’s ward, she heard equipment crashing to the floor and shattering. She fished out her cell phone and dialed a number.…

Yesterday Glenn and I experienced Loon Lake here in Northern California, and man was it a great experience! Loon lake is located in Northern California and is adjacent to the legendary Rubicon Trail. Our day started with meeting at In N Out in Auburn CA at 4:30 a.m.....well I was there at 4:30; Glenn showed up around 4:50 but I can say it was fashionably late, at least as fashionable as a person can be that early in the morning. During my twenty minute wait, surprisingly I wasn't alone at this In N out. There were about three vehicles I spotted while sitting on the trunk of my Toyota Solara drinking my morning coffee as I thought to myself...what good reason could someone have for being at a random In N out at such a random time? Keep in mind…

Today we are crossing the Kansas River to reach Alcone Springs. We still have a long way but it takes about 15 minutes to cross so I thought i would sit down and write about our past 3 days. It cost $1 to use the Pappin Ferry to get across. Our rope has been really good so far and haven't fixed it. On the 19th Grace got a spring cold which I got really worried because i don't know where a General store is ahead and if we run out of medicine right now… it will be bad. Other then that, much hasn't happened besides getting sick. The journey is doing good so far, lots of walking and stopping but what can you do.…

To travel down the Oregon Trail, we travelled in horse drawn wagons and had oxen’s pulling carts of supplies. I like other pioneer families left my home with my worldly possessions that I could afford to carry. We faced being robbed at gunpoint by highway men on the trail. Another danger faced by the female pioneers and the wagon train were…

We reach the Dalles before getting the Oregon City. Here we have to Barlow Road around Mt. Hood. We have barely any food left, every animal is near done, and people in our wagon train are starting to get sick. We are also low on money, but we have to pay a toll to go on the Barlow Road. We do not have enough money to pay for this because we need at least a little bit of money to start, so we have to get them to compromise, maybe pay $1.50 and give them one of our nice pans and something that Larry bought from the blacksmith shop. It took some convincing, but they gave in and we got through. Barlow Road is really rough and bumpy. It is knocking our things around and hurting our feet. Our feet are badly, badly blistered. It is so narrow that our wagon barely fits. We cannot walk next to our wagon, we have to either walk…

Fighting temptation describes a battle that is as much spiritual as it is emotional or physical. To be tempted is not a sin. Everyone is tempted and at different levels. Even Jesus was tempted! Temptation happens when the opportunity is presented to do what we know is wrong, whether against God, ourselves, or others. Being tempted is not wrong - it's the decision to do wrong and the corresponding action that follows.…

I told my mother that I was going to the post office hoping to have a letter from my father. My mom said “Miranda, I heard that things should get better soon and this will be all over with, please be quick and be safe, it will all be over soon.” That gave me some hope. I left my skis in the house, knowing what I was going up against. I stepped outside into the blizzard, expecting the worst and not returning home. When I finally got to the post office, I realized that it was closed. Feeling hopeless, I was ready to give up and let the elements take me. But suddenly a flyer blew by me. I snatched the flyer and it said there is a food drive going on at the town hall. I managed to get there; I looked up, strained of all energy. The mayor explained how he was proud of me because I was getting food for my family and thinking of everyone else before myself. Being so exhausted, I looked up at the sky; a patch of blue peeked out at me. I jump up in excitement, an energy rush running through my body. I jump up and down, knowing that things are only going to get better from here knowing that my little brother Johnny and the rest of the family have a chance to survive. The mayor asks what all the excitement was about; I said “look up; there is hope in the air!” He looked up with the rest of the people at city hall in awe, looking hopeful. I had received a ride home to inform my family on the news. Once I told my mother, she cried tears of joy, knowing that everything should be over soon. Johnny screamed in joy, knowing that we all made it. Life will only get better now. This will soon be the life as we knew…
