Courage To Grow
Everyone has a dream, a goal,& an aspiration they want to reach in life including me. It seems like there is always that one resource that will help you reach that goal, and I believe The Leon and Harman Foundation would significantly help me. Coming from a family were, children had the mindset that after your done with high school, that your completely done with school & your free! When in reality its not! Its just the beginning. The beginning of a whole new world, with a lot of new problems, where you have to learn to fend for yourself , and to show independence. Separating the boys from the men. Showing people like myself who strive to work hard to make something out of there life, to beat conformity and to show that they're not just a statistic. I want to demonstrate; especially to my brother that hard work, and determination to obtain your goals will always come with a blessing. With this scholarship, I want too show the committee how passionate and driven I am by supporting me in my dreams and goals to further my education. The reason I believe I should be considered for this scholarship is because I am a very hard worker. I take direction very well , and I want to make something out of my life by furthering my education. My academic plans are to keep attending San Joaquin Delta College , to complete my general education requirements , and transfer to a 4-year college and major in communication and minor in music. One day I would love too become a newscaster . Ever since I was a little boy I dreamt of it ! (Lights , Camera, Action, Reporting The News In Stockton ). Through life I’ve dealt with many problems , but I have never let that stop me , for example I auditioned for American Idol and made it to the third round, but had got cut, I thought my career as a singer was over, but I just kept motivating myself and ended up in this new musical called Damaged. Everyone has dealt with challenges in their life , and the most recent challenge I had

Why I deserve to be considered for the South Central Border All-Academics Scholarship is an easy answer, because I plan on continuing to play sports in college including dance and maybe throwing the javelin. Most students would give a heart wrenching explanation, but I go on facts. Fact one; I will be continuing to participate in dance at college. Fact two; academics do not come easy to me and so I have to work extremely hard at it. Fact three; I will work extremely hard to make the school record in javelin by throwing 109 feet. Fact four; I will be a part of dance team in college to help pay for books and tuition in college because I can not afford college otherwise. I go on facts and do not believe in lying so I will tell you that dance and…

Nationally, TRIO SSS Programs provide opportunities for academic development, assist students in meeting college requirements, and motivate students toward successful completion of their college degree. Candidates, I once sat where you are. Let me take you back on my journey, in hopes that it will encourage and motivate you to remain focused on the endeavour that you are about to embark upon. I received the Scholarship for the school year commencing September, 1993. I was advised at the time that the scholarship was for one school year, but with good grades, that year could turn into another year. So, I made the commitment first to God and then to myself to succeed, and with hard work, dedication and determination I was able to achieve the grades, earning the scholarship for five years up to my graduation in 1997. The scholarship allowed me to attend Freeport Anglican High School the now Bishop Michael Eldon School, where I received a quality education in an environment conducive to learning, and a foundation that prepared me for studies beyond High School. This scholarship was not only an opportunity for my fees to be funded by persons other than my parents but an opportunity to realize that if a…

Racism and segregation have been and always will be alive in some forms in the United Sates and around the world. Racism and segregation are terrible by themselves, but seeing how people deal with them can make matters worse. Some of the best examples of the ways people dealt with these issues were shown in the poems “I, Too” and “White Lies”. In the poem “I, Too” by Langston Hughes, Hughes describes an African American’s willingness and courage to fight, when experiencing racism and segregation. But in the poem “White Lies” by Natasha Trethewey, Trethewey represents the lengths to which an African American would go in order to avoid standing up for herself or her race.…

I deserve to win this scholarship for many reasons. I have worked hard most of my life, academically . I have always dreamed of building and designing houses since I was 9 years old. I always told my mom that I was destined to build homes for people. I asked my mom one day what exactly is the name of what I want to be and she said to me that finding out the name of what it was I wanted to be myself would have more importance than her telling me. That's when I tought myself how to use a computer and I found two results: Architecture and Interior Design.…

There is many challenges or obstacles in life. They are placed there by god to create the person you are today. This is my life story of how I overcame some challenges and obstacles in order to become a better person. An old abandon trailer laid at the end of a dark and dirty ally. Aluminum sheets with baseball size holes covering the small collapsing home as if it was a blanket. One room, a kitchen and toilet were the only things standing inside the small trailer. The bedroom only had one bed in it, the kitchen stove didn’t work and a toilet that would never flush. I know, it’s not much but it was indeed my home.…

I should receive this scholarship because, one I have been growing all my life but, two because in the past seven to eight years of my life I have been growing by far the most. I would define it as when a tree has a really nutritional year the rings inside the tree become thicker than others. The past seven to eight years have been difficult but now I see how all the stress, tears and questioning was worth it. My mom passed when I was ten-years-old, while that was heart aching enough, my aunt later took me and my sisters in, I was not able to foresee what was up upon us. My mom had left me and my sisters some funds for schooling and living but my grandmother, my mothers, mother hid it from us. My aunt perused the case in court but we could…

My desire to excel in academics dates back to middle school when I received my very first letter grade, an A. Since that very special and wonderful moment, I have and will continue to work as hard as I have to in order to be successful in my academic career. I have many educational goals, for education is one of my top priorities. I plan on receiving a double major in Finance and Marketing with a minor in Mathematics, while maintaining a high grade point average. Currently, I maintain a 4.0 GPA, and I take enormous pride in that. Also, after completion of my current studies, I plan on entering graduate school to acquire my MBA. Hopefully, this will allow me to obtain a management position within a highly respected business, which has always been an ambition of mine. My personal philosophy in life is that none of my hopes, dreams or wishes will happen until I make them happen. The greatest mistake anybody can make in life is to continually fear that they will make one. This is why I try to live life to the fullest, take nothing for granted and to always go after what I want because nothing is ever just handed to you. I am applying for a General Scholarship because with college being so expensive, it would allow me to reduce the number of hours that I work, which would then allow me more time to concentrate on my studies. I believe that I am excellent candidate as you can see from my academic achievement and all the activities I am involved in. If I were to receive a General Scholarship, it would be a constant encouragement and reminder that I am capable of greatness and receiving a General Scholarship, will put me one step closer to achieving my…

I believe that everyone has problems or challenges to overcome everyday. Even people who think that they are perfect have problems or challenges to overcome everyday. I always have to overcome challenges or problems. No one in this world will not have any challenges or problems. They will have some type of challenge or problem. I believe anyone will be able to overcome those problems. People will always have issues when coming to problems or challenges. Sometime when I have problems in my daily life, I think of them as challenges to overcome. When you overcome those challenges, I know that you will feel good about it. I believe that no one should challenge a problem in their daily life. Because you get problems and adversity anyway, no matter what, why not at least make use of them? Thinking of those obstacles as challenges is a giant step in the direction of making hardship or difficulty has meaning. Best decision I ever made was to strive to do this. Don’t get me wrong. I still have my moments where I fail miserably and then gripe and moan for unknown amounts of time as I have a pity party. However when I’m done feeling sorry for myself I remember my goal to do this and suddenly there is a surge of strength that comes up that I didn’t know I had….and I can carry on. So I wish you the best as you strive for this goal!!! I believe that anyone will be able to overcome challenges and problems everyday. I believe that problems are challenges to overcome in your daily life. Believe in yourself and believe in your problems and challenges to overcome everyday. My own problems or challenges that I had to overcome: One day in Computer Science class, we were starting another lab for the six weeks. My teacher Mrs. Glennon taught the lesson needed for this lab last class and I did not understand it very well. There were many lessons to teach you to know the materials, but something was missing and I could not understand it. On that day, I was unable to complete any parts of…

Given the opportunity to receive a scholarship it will not only help minimize a great deal of the financial hardship that I am currently enduring as a student, but also will assist me in obtaining excellent proficiency in a church setting and the market place. Furthermore, this education will assist me in growing fundamentally as a gospel artist by obtaining the tools and a further understanding of God’s word through my studies at Beulah Heights University. I will be able to excel my inherent talents for speaking and ministering, all while gaining new skills as well. I sincerely appreciate the Committee’s time and efforts in advance by allowing me the opportunity to be the best that I can be and perhaps be able to pass the knowledge and skills gained to others in the future…
