Cost Benefit Analysis

VIA Consulting has been hired in CanGo’s behalf to assist its management group in the decision making of the implementation of the new operating ASRS system, and we came out with the following financial information and data.
CanGo started operating as a small company in 2006. In 2008 the company reported a net profit of $7,000,000 and $15,000,000 for the 2009. The company’s most profitable division has been its online book sale. Due to the fact that CanGo has been increasing its sales and revenue for more than 100%, the company has demonstrate that it is a profitable organization, but at the same time, it has been reporting an increase on client’s complains for a deficient customer service. According to management at the organization, some of the issues are unproductive personnel, the time for an order to be processed is too long, small warehouse space, and short inventory. CanGo is looking for a new operating system that allows them to decrease labor, lower space and increase productivity and revenue.
An ASRS (Automated storage and retrieval system) consists of a variety of computer-controlled systems for automatically placing and retrieving loads from defined storage locations. This type of system is utilized majorly for companies with a very high volume of loads being moved into and out of storage. The benefits of an ASRS system include reduced labor for transporting items into and out of inventory, reduced inventory levels, more accurate tracking of inventory, and space savings (Wikipedia, 2014). VIA Consulting is going to help CanGo to calculate the costs of the new ASRS system. Utilizing tools like net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR), we will examine and evaluate if the investment will benefit economically the organization.
The cost for a new ASRS system is approximately of $2,000,000

CanGo needs to start with just one ASRS system instead of purchasing two at this time so that they can see how product flows and if they really need second system. The cost of a ASRS system varies in size and how it functions within the warehouse. The cost can be estimated from $125,000 to $200,000. Now that is just purchasing and installing the system. Then the system is going to need to have people to operate it, so that can cost more because it is a very complex system that is ran by a computer that states what shelf it needs to go to and what it needs to pick up. Installing this complex system could take a few weeks up to a month, but it could be sooner if CanGo only orders on ASRS system. If this system was implemented now, then the company would not have the finances to actually start up the online gaming system, because they had used it on…

In 2002, Shell Canada launched its online store called eStore for its customers. The objective was to keep costs low by having a self-service technology so that agricultural customers can buy their products without the need for a sales-representative. The statistics from eStore showed even though the number of customers who signed up for eStore was close to the target, number of customers who actually used eStore remained low. The problem seemed to be mainly due to customers having difficulty with the service. According to customer’s feedbacks, many encountered various technical problems when they tried to place orders. Others just preferred traditional methods of buying what they needed, while the remaining group were simply unaware of eStore. It is evident that the low number of purchases done through eStore is highly related to these issues particularly the technical issues in the website. If prompt actions are not taken to address these issues, Shell Canada would risk decreasing sales and even losing customers. After analyzing the situation and the company, it is determined that assembling a small team of experts to fix the technical issues of eStore and improve its user interface based on customers’ feedbacks is the best alternative. The implementation will take two months and then there will be a month of close monitoring period after the improved version of eStore is launched.…
