Abstract.
The essence of science education in nation building within the context of Nigerian national policy on education is a function of the delivery mechanism in place. This necessitates the need to recognize the importance of entrepreneurship in current socio-economic dispensation by science teachers. The paper depicts this scenario with respect to secondary school chemistry education. It is undisputable that the objective of chemistry education in Nigeria is compromised. This is justified by the prevalence of marked perennial youth unemployment problem which remains a thorn in flesh of our national development. This unfortunate circumstance (in relation to chemistry graduates) is rooted from Nigerian chemistry teacher’s inability to cite and expose its economic relevance through the use of appropriate instructional strategies. This paper provides a framework of how chemistry teachers in Nigeria can rise up to this challenge by inculcating requisite scientific skills and attitudes as a basis for entrepreneurial personality development in their graduates.

Scott Adams shares with us the ideal framework for an entrepreneurial curriculum. In his article How to Get a Real Education, he reinforces the fact that the whole is far greater than the sum of these parts, especially in the context of an entrepreneur. Adams tells us of a couple stories from when he was in college and how he used the skills of an entrepreneur to become successful. He saw opportunities, sometimes embedded within problems, and worked them to his favor. This is what he referred to when speaking of the learned skill of transforming “nothing into something”, which is a skill that obviously applies to business. His basic idea is that much academic-oriented education is wasted on many people. Scott says these people would instead profit from a much more skills-oriented education, “something useful, like entrepreneurship”. Adams is essentially informing these college students on how to make the most out of their schooling and what skills are needed to do so.…

In this study, the authors probed how psychological factors affected the choice of entrepreneurship as a means of lifelihood by university graduates in Nigeria. Using questionnaires, completed by 729 males and 371 females, totaling 1100 university graduates of the University of Ibadan, cutting across thirteen (13) faculties, three (3) halls of residence and two (2) libraries, the researchers found that core self-evaluation (CSE) and pre-entrepreneurial factors of fear of failure, criticism, success and change influenced the choice of entrepreneurship by university graduates as a career. The study which focused mainly on Africa, as prior works in this area, had been concentrated on the western countries revealed that people with high core self-evaluation embraces entrepreneurship more than those with low CSE. Also high perception of entrepreneurial capacity was found to evoke less fear in entrepreneurship by young graduates.…

What started off as a scholarly pursuit has now become the cradle of progress for all the elitist nations of the world, and the only potential redeemer of the developing nations; but science is an expensive luxury which the modest nations such as ours can’t afford, or at least that’s what the communal belief is. This is the very reason our science labs are mostly deserted and the culture of science, largely absent.…
