MEMORANDUM
Date: January 27, 2014
To: Dennis McGee, Manager
From: Barry Bristow, Information Technology Department
Subject: Report on Best Web Conferencing Programs
On December 10, 2013 the Information Technology manager asked me to do some research on the best web conferencing programs for our weekly status meetings. After completing my research I have decided that Adobe Connect would be the best choice for our video conferencing needs.
The following Points summarize my findings.
1. Performance
During a two week test period I found that the Adobe Connect outperformed Cisco WebEx Meeting Center, and Citrix GoTo Meeting. The Adobe Connect supports all mobile platforms where the other two only Support IPad. With the Adobe Connect it is possible to have up to 100 users and to share and annotate files, videos, and one another’s desktops.
2. Specifications
The size of our weekly status meeting limits some of the other video conferencing options.

IBM Lotus Connections and Near-Time share similarities in enabling the users to blog, wiki, and mashup because these collaborative Web technology tools are equipped with the social computing abilities. Both of these advanced technological tools are both easy to install, without any IT’s assistance, and inexpensive (economical). Near-Time allows the users to sort out the information source and develop new informal channels; in contrast, IBM Lotus Connections does not allow users the same information sorting and creating functions. Making use of these advanced technological tools for wiki, store and retrieve data, and blogging seems practical and beneficial at my workplace; however, my job does not always need these highly developed technological devices to accomplish the work goals.…

From here I decided that Citrix GoToMeeting would be the best fit for our status meetings and possibly to set meeting with customers in the future. And you can join from any Mac, PC, or nearly any smartphone or tablet.…

Google Docs offers online applications that are similar to Microsoft’s Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Because they are online they have limited features but are beneficial in their ability to increase collaboration. Files can be seen and edited by multiple users simultaneously in real time. Google Docs also allows you to control who can edit, versus simply see or comment on the file. Collaboration is also supported with a chat application that allows instant messaging between people editing the same file. Files are automatically saved and archived so that users can go back to see a previous version. This enhances teamwork as data is never permanently lost if someone accidentally deletes something.…
