The idea that Axe is moving into different territory by attempting to equalize men and women sexually is emergent discourse. Scripts of lust and hyper sexuality are giving way to scripts of “Make Love, Not War”. This can be seen as a desirable outcome for a female audience of the Peace products. If this is a successful outcome, women’s views on Axe will shift, they will purchase the products for their partners and profits will increase. When the deputy executive director was asked if this new message of love and equality instead of lust and gender wars was possible or believable in an Axe campaign, he stated that “the brand has been slowly evolving for a while now.” (Nudd, 2014, para. 8)…

The message behind the Axe commercials is quite simple: Use Axe body sprays and women will pursue you. Even though many ads online may claim to be selling magic pheromones that are “100% Guaranteed to Attract Sex Now,” it’s pretty safe to say that there is no such thing. If it were true eHarmony and Match.com would be filing for Chapter 11 right about now. Nevertheless, commercials targeting young adults, such as Clearasil and Axe, adamantly glorify these unrealistic fantasies.…

Personal hygiene products such as Axe use half naked men and women to advertise. For example then men use the spray and women chase and tackle them like animals. No human being should be portrayed as an animal. And the men in the commercials really show that males should look a certain way in order for women to be attracted to them. Everyone is different and has their own sense of style so these commercials are really downing individuality. Timi Ross Poeppelman, California State University, Sacramento instructor, says “They are degrading to both sexes. It’s interesting…

Unilever owns the Dove brand that was praised for uniquely marketing their skincare products. Dove created the “Real Beauty” marketing campaign that promised to “help real women reveal their own real beauty” and the Dove Self-Esteem Fund that promotes a “change in young girls’ attitudes about themselves” (Sheth, et. al, 2014, 95). This is a dramatic step away from similar companies in the market that advertised only one standard of beauty. While Dove can be commended for addressing this social issue, the “Real Beauty” campaign should not be mistaken for Unilever’s desire to inspire women. Unilever also owns Axe, a skincare line marketed towards males that routinely depicts women in the media’s traditional sense of beauty (Stampler, 2013). The “Real Beauty” campaign is not a reflection of Unilever’s need to encourage a healing message in their marketing, rather the “Real Beauty” campaign is a way for Dove to differentiate themselves in the market to sell more product. The campaign is not a company view, but a branding…

Federal court rules Telephone Consumer Protection Act does not apply to commercial SMS text messages sent to cellular phones. The ruling came a few weeks ago in Satterfield v. Simon & Schuster, No. C 06-2893 CW, 2007 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 46325 (N.D. Cal. June 26, 2007), a case involving the transmission of an SMS text message promoting a popular author's "mobile club" to a cellular phone used by a seven-year-old child. The defendants, the publishing company that contracted for the transmission of the promotional messages and the service provider that actually sent the messages, argued that the subscriber, the child's mother, had consented to the transmission of promotional messages when, in order to receive a free ringtone, she checked the box in an online form labeled "Yes! I would like to receive promotions from Nextones affiliates and brands…."…
