Moving to the Emerald City

It was a complete culture shock when I moved from Salt Lake City, Utah to Seattle, Washington.
I was off to college moving out on my own for the first time, moving to an entirely new city and state to play college basketball for North Seattle Community College. My Dad and I left Utah at four in the morning and we drove 850 miles to Seattle which we did in 15 hours straight in one day. We arrived at my new house in my new temporary home located in the busy University District of Seattle, there to welcome me was my new roommates ready to help me move in and help get all my things to my room.
When I got to my room I was really worried to see that I had no bed or furniture in a tiny and dirty little room in the dark dungeon of a basement. My Dad and I quickly had to go to the store to get a mattress and all we could get for the time being was a little air mattress. Thankfully my Dad was there to help me get settled in but I was still freaking out about how different life is in Seattle compared to Salt Lake.
When I dropped my Dad off at the airport I was scared knowing that in a few moments I would be officially on my on without Mom or Dad to help and take care of me for the first time. My first day on my own was a rough one, driving was definitely the worst part of it. Back in Utah we have really wide streets with several lanes and there are no one way streets and you basically park almost anywhere, anytime without having the worry of being towed. I was freaking out how narrow and skinny the streets were here and I almost went the opposite way on a one way road which gave me a heart attack almost coming in to oncoming traffic, and I got two parking tickets on my first day and my car almost got towed but thankfully one of my roommates saved the day telling the officer it was my first day so he let me go.
Needless to say my first day

When I was about eight years old I found out we were moving. The walls seemed to have come crashing in. What? Moving? I remember being devastated beyond repair, knowing that our yard and our neighborhood that I loved so dearly didn’t have a spot in my future. Secretly excited about the new place, I couldn’t wait to move in. A few months of packing and storing went by and we moved into the new house. An apartment?…

Some of you might be asking, what is annotation? Annotation is the act of adding notes. There is a lot of things that you can cover while annotating. My favorite thing to annotate is poems. They usually have less lines than a story. But tell a deeper story. Today I will use the following poem as an example and walk you through the steps I take to annotate a poem. (I 'm not quite sure who the author is, but we used it as practice in my English class and I fell in love with it.)…

However my memory of the first day was largely marred by Dad; with his new and shiny American muscle car; forgot that when all four doors were shut the lock system was activated. All hell broke lose! With my mum muttering and rambling nonchalantly and quietly with the odd distinguishable, "God..men" and my dad, the man of the household and the "decisive" being, who was spouting all sorts of obscenities and was spanking the car, lightly so no damage was done but gave the impression that somehow it was the cars fault, it was up to me (seeming the only level headed member of the family) to aqcuire the basic survival needs such as food and water. With out park tickets being used for the day there was no way of buying fresh water. Giving up on the task of survival and surrending to the fate of the great over-powering Florida sunshine that was gobbling up every ounce of…

Being stuck in traffic is not a fun thing to do, nor do I wish this upon anyone. It is one of the most annoying and frustrating things for me. July 4th of 2009 is one day I will never forget. The night before my friend and I had gone to a party, I decided to spend the night at her house. The next day in the morning was July 4th. I woke up half asleep. Then we had a nice breakfast that her grandfather had cooked for us. It was delicious too. Little after, I decided to drive home because my family was expecting me for out typical Fourth of July barbeque. When I got to my car I thought to myself, “I think I’m going to take Anderson Street home”. It was a brand new road and I knew it would take me home. I wanted to check out the new street, see what new shops they had built, and what restaurants were around Anderson Street.…
