Dogs and Cats

A study done by The American Animal Hospital Association say; that if people were stranded on a desert island, they would prefer the company of their pet. Dogs and cats play a huge role in our lives, weather it’s a family pet or a human service pet. They have made their way into our homes and our hearts with their quirky and fun loving personalities. Dogs and cats have been around for thousands of years providing our ancestors with love and enjoyment. “About 15,000 years of friendship between man and dog have helped man's best friend to develop unique ways of understanding humans”, (November 21, 2002 Marsha Walton CNN). It is clear to see that these playful animals have made their way into our hearts and cultures. Today as modern society expands and encroaches on nature the dog and the cat are still the leading choice companions for pets not just in our modern societies but all over the world.

Dogs and Cats are mans domesticated friends and animals both with different traits and personalities that play a huge role in our everyday lives and deciding which is the best fit for us is understanding and appreciating what each species of dog and cat have to offer.

The dog is considered to be mans best friend. They love their owner and strangers unconditionally and demand our full and undivided attention. Their most prominent trait is their childlike playfulness and their relentless desire to run and chase things around. Dogs are the happiest when they get to play and interact with their owner as much as possible. Dogs are social, happy creatures that will wonder off sometimes if not supervised to find someone that will pet them and give them attention. Like all

Everyday, stereotype is used in the society. Sometimes, when people use stereotype on other people, they don’t even recognize it because it’s so common and is ignored by the society. It’s a way to judge people through their common believes based on ethnicity, gender, skin color, appearance and language of the people who are being judged. For example, when people see a Vietnamese woman in her 20’s, 30’s and 40’s just migrated to America, they would assume that she will be working in a nail salon and flirt with some rich guys to get married with. Being stereotype is difficult deal with, and it’s really offended and hurtful. “The Myth of the Latin woman: I Just Met a Girl Named Maria” by Judith Ortiz Cofer and “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan share some common and different stereotypes that they had to go through. In the story “The Myth of the Latin Woman: I just met a Girl Named Maria”, Judith Cofer wrote about her experiences being stereotyped as a Latin woman. In “Mother Tongue,” Amy shared her personal experiences being stereotyped with her language’s barrier. Even though the two female authors shared the similarity for being stereotyped by the society, they faced different situations on the way they were stereotyped.…

The dogs' value to early human hunter-gatherers led to them quickly becoming ubiquitous across world cultures. Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship, and, more recently, aiding handicapped individuals. This impact on human society has given them the nickname "man's best friend" in the Western world. In some cultures, however, dogs are also a source of meat.[7][8] In 2001, there were estimated to be 400 million dogs in the world.[9]…

Having a pet dog improves your physical and mental wellbeing. Pets encourage you to get out and exercise. Whether we walk our dogs because they need it, or are more likely to enjoy a walk when we have companionship, dog owners do spend more time walking than non-pet owners. Because exercise is good for stress management and overall health, owning a dog can be credited with increasing these benefits. Pets can help with social support. When you’re out walking, having a dog with you can make you more approachable and give people a reason to stop and talk to you, increasing the number of people you meet, giving you an opportunity to increase your network of friends and acquaintances. As many benefits as pets bring, it's important not to become too dependent on those animal companions. Though they make great companions, in the end pets are still no substitute for human friends and family.…
