As an editor of a newspaper I would publish and report the truth on how the judicial system works in our country. Whether or not the crime committed is in Malaysia or abroad. As it is, the defamation of the National Anthem by Wee Meng Chee is considered a public interest whereby all Malaysian are eager and concern about the out come of this matter.

Wee Meng Chee or better know as Namewee, a 24 years old, undergraduate from Ming Chun University of Taiwan. Wee Meng Chee had sung and insulted the Malaysian national anthem “Negaraku” in rap style. Wee Meng Chee gained popularity after releasing a controversial song fused with the
National Anthem of Malaysia, Negaraku, which describes the state of the country and its government.

He too has changed the title of the National Anthem Negaraku to Negarakuku. The structure of the song consists of two major components; the rapping by Wee Meng Chee and Malaysia’s National Anthem. The song was sung in an R&B tone without altering the melody and lyrics of the anthem. This has caused outrages outburst from many parties especially the Muslim community. He was reported to have touched on racially sensitive issues. The unpleasant act of Wee Meng Chee therefore, injures the reputation of Malaysia and also exposing himself to hatred and contempt.

The rap video clip of the National Anthem Negarakuku was uploaded onto You Tube by Wee Meng Chee himself on July 15, 2007. In the video clip it features montage phonographs of Malaysia i.e. image of Malaysian flag as backdrop, official law enforcement, politicians, mosque, Malay community and reviling animation of a woman breastfeeding her infant.

The song composed by Wee Meng Chee, Negarakuku covers elements of daily lives in Malaysia from his perspective and point of view, expressing dissatisfaction. Here are some of the elements that made waves throughout Malaysia:

• Given the impression that the police force was corrupted

• Civil servants were slow in serving the

Malaysia is a wonderful country as the other knows. There are three ethnics: Malay, Chinese and India. Furthermore, there are different cultures and festivals. When we talks about Malaysia, we can know that the weather is extremely hot and dry. What we can do? Complaining? Just forget about it. We just keep sweating. It is not temporary but permanent. How pitiful is the Malaysian? Dislike the other country, China, there is spring, summer, autumn nor winter. Luckily, Malaysia has a lot of delicious food and drinks. The most popular Malay food –Nasi Lemak. Traditionally, this comes as a platter of food wrapped in banana leaves, with cucumber slices, small fried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, hard boiled egg, and hot spicy sauce (sambal) at its core. This is not flattering. I believed everyone love this much. Malaysia is a safe country. No tsunami, earthquake nor tornado. Of course, I must be proud with where I stay now. I guess the foreigner must be envious with Malaysia. Furthermore, Malaysia civilians are very passionate. They always put their smiling emotion on their faces. They always give the warmness welcoming to the others. When you need help, they must be pleasured to lend a hand.…
