College Athletes Should Not Get Paid
Some people believe that college athletes should be paid and others do not. The only thing wrong with paying athletes is they get paid in other ways. College athletes get scholarships, housing, coaches, and opportunities no other college student has. So maybe they shouldn’t get paid but when you step back and look at the whole picture; coaches get paid a lot of money for example coming from Nick Saban (football coach of University of Alabama) he makes over $7 million a year. But think of the team. Yes, the coaches put in a lot of effort to teach his players but the players do the real work. How many people go to a football game and say “I’m just here to see how the coach does.” No one is at these expensive games to see the coaches work they are there to see the football players play. Now I am not saying that coaches should not get paid but think of …show more content…
What would happen in a basketball player would jump up to get the ball and a player knocked him over. The player broke his leg. What would they do about that player? Maybe they would try to heal him but what if they decide it is a lifelong injury? NCAA.org says, “ Some division 1 schools offer insurance coverage and some schools acquire out of the pocket costs.” So in that case the player could end up paying for college and hospital bills or they could lose their scholarship and not be able to get a job but yet still have to pay for their hospital bills. That person would have a very hard life. People around the world spends a lot of money to go see the games or buy a shirt that has their favorite player's name and number on it. Why shouldn’t the players get some of that money instead of the coaches? I think they should get just a little bit of that money at least. My side on this is that college athletes should be paid but not very much. College coaches should be paid a little less. Athletes should be paid so in that case of injury or just life in general they have a way to

In recent years the topic of college football players being paid has been widely discussed, but in reality the fact that this is even a discussion is just ridiculous. College football isn't a job, it is an extracurricular activity students can take part in while in college. Behind this common idea is college football players already are being seen as more privileged and that is not fair to other students and paying college football players will increase that perception. Also if the college football players were paid there must be an organized plan in terms of the pay structure it would it be fairly determined in terms of how to pay the football players and seeing if certain players get paid more than others. Most importantly is the immaturity…

Some people argue that college football players shouldn’t be paid because they get scholarships. Chris Burnette thought that getting a scholarship would be more than enough, but after his sophomore year he realized it wasn’t much. There is also the threat of losing the scholarship if you aren’t performing to the liking of the coach. It is also possible to lose a scholarship by getting injured, something the player has no control over.…

Well except for the fact that players don’t get paid for their labor. If you look at it players should see at least little part of whatever money they generate, for example Texas A&M start quarterback Jonny Manzel is said to be responsible for close to 2.5 million dollars in revenue generated for the school alone. Because of TV, merchandise, tickets sales and him just playing there Texas A&M gets that much extra money. He doesn’t get anything from it, in fact most college athletes are struggling money wise while on campus. Coaches on the other hand, since players can’t get paid the coaches make 6 and sometimes 7 figures. John Kalipary, the head coach at Kentucky University has a 4 million dollar salary. This just isn’t fair to the student athlete and I think they should have some sort of compensation for all that they…

College athletes should get paid for what they do. College athletes aren’t allowed to have a job while in college. And not all college athletes get free education and those are the ones struggling to make it. College athletes bring in a lot of money so they should get some of the money.…

The salaries of professional and collegiate athletes have always been a matter of debate. How much or how little athletes are being paid, and how it affects the sport, has been in countless discussions between players, fans, reporters, agents, and sports analysts. Some believe that players don’t deserve huge contracts, and most players that have huge contracts are overpaid and it hurts the sport. Then again, others feel that players work hard for their contracts and most athletes deserve their money. My stance on the issue is probably the same as most fans, and different from most owners. The sports industry racks in huge sums of money every year and if athletes aren’t receiving that money, most likely the owners and commissioners are collecting most of the money. I personally feel that the athletes are doing the most work therefore; they should be getting paid the most. I understand that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes when it comes to sports, but it’s unfair to athletes to give most of the money to owners while the athletes are doing all of the hard work.…

The main argument from the perspective that they should be paid is that the athletes are the ones bringing in the revenue. March Madness, for example, brings in over 11 million viewers and over 9 billion dollars gambled. With all those viewers and money, the athletes deserve a reward for bringing that revenue into the school and NCAA. Although, there’s only two main sports that bring profit into a college -- football and basketball. Does this mean there are players who only play basketball and football deserve to be paid? Not only that but would everyone receive a salary even if they don’t play in a…

To get a sense of the amount of money involved intercollegiate sports such as football. Let’s be clear, football cannot be taught, its either you have it in you or you don’t have it in you, ‘’It’s a God given talent’’. I honestly don’t believe it is fair for football players to not receive a single penny after bringing in thousands and sometimes millions of dollars in the playoff games, and in the championship game. For example, on December 31 2016, Per Adam Jude both teams were allotted 13,000 tickets which equal’s 26,000 tickets, which left 45,228 tickets to be paid for full price. According to www.vividseats.com the cheapest tickets were 180.00 each. There are 20,000 nosebleed seats in this stadium they played in. so if you do the math and calculate 180x20,000, the amount will equal out to 360,000 dollars, which would be the amount of money these football athletes attracted in just off nosebleed seats. The NCAA is a multi-billion-dollar industry that generated over $845 billion last year due to their players’ ability to entertain and perform to their fullest extent always. So, with all this money flowing in why wouldn’t they provide their athletes a stipend? Truth be told, if it wasn’t for these athletes there wouldn’t be no fans, which mean there wouldn’t be no money. So, can you tell how is it fair that these football players can’t receive a single dime after putting in the time,…

How much time and effort are student-athletes actually getting credit for? Should college athletes be paid for playing? The coaches of most college sports teams are getting all the rewards while the players are doing all the work. Paying athletes could improve attitudes and create more motivation. There are three main arguments as to why college athletes should be paid to play sports: athletes will be more motivated for academic studies, schools earn massive amounts of money from athletic events, and athletes have more costs to cover.…

Cam Kirk Eng Daste kjnkjgjhgj “There are approximately 176,000” (NCAA) student athletes currently playing sports in college. If you ask people whether College athletes should be paid, most would say yes, but most people don’t realize the factors that go into that decision. With that being said college athletes should not be paid because they receive more benefits than other people on campus by receiving free things like education, clothing/accessories, and the cost for the staff and for transportation. Not only that, but they also have to pay the coaches and everyone who contributes to the program. Overall there are many things that have to go into making sure programs stay up and running.…

If college athletes were paid there wouldn’t be nearly as much money for the sport department itself because all of the money would go to paying the players. And there would be bias from popular sports like basketball and football between the least popular sports like field hockey and swimming. The more popular sports would get more money and the least popular sports would be left hanging to dry. College coaches get paid a lot and the players see that and tend to be greedy about money. Players behavior could change ad a result of the salaries as well, and not for the better.…

The last reason that I think that college athletes should get paid is because most athletes work really hard to be in that sport do college and some of them have jobs and families they have to keep up with. Some of the athletes that have jobs could get stressed out with all the work they have. If they get paid they can have just a little bit less things to do off their chest.…

From the money colleges make off of athletic events, the athletes performance is a major contribution to this profit made. The most recent year that the revenue made by the NCAA is available is 2011-2012. That year, the NCAA made $871.6 million. This money is distributed to many groups involved in the process of the NCAA and programs affiliated with it. However, the most important group in this process, the players, fail to receive any income from this revenue. This revenue is received by a couple of different sources. These categories of sources include contributions facilities make, sales and services, officials, investments, championships, and largest of all: television and marketing rights fees. These athletes are involved in these athletic events just as much as or more than any coach, manager, owner, broadcaster, or anyone else associated with these sporting events. So why do they not receive a piece of the pie? These players work their butt off year round to compete for one season of the year. It is estimated that college athletes put in about 50 hours a week training or practicing for their specific sport. This is more time than many people work a week, and these student-athletes are doing this on top of taking their classes. Another reason why these athletes deserve to be paid for their performance is due to the high risk they put themselves…
